Got looking at what the 1st pick in the draft will cost the Cowboys. It basically is a wash between signing DAK or drafting Lawrence. Take for instance, the Bengals 1st pick in the 2020 draft, Joe Burrow, agreed to terms on a four-year, $36 million contract. When all the media outlets had DAK turning down a similar 5yr deal with the Cowboys.

Not sure what the best option would be
1. Draft Trevor Lawerance or Fields and pay more than 36mil for a rookie unproven QB then Tag and trade DAK.
2. Sign DAK to 37-40mil contract and have a proven QB then trade down for multiple picks in the draft.
3. Sign DAK and stay put with a Top 5 pick

I lean towards signing DAK and trading back in the draft...but who with?

I'd take Dak in a heartbeat over that Hindenburg Hot Boyz Lawrence.

your math is fuzzy man! and heres the issue

unless we end up first overall picking Lawerence with no xtra picks given, yes take him, if not no way i trade up from 4 to one and get Lawrence as it will cost us good layers and money..

we need to wait until week 16 to fins out the possibility's , if a top qb falls in our laps Lawrence or fields etc without a extra pick or more to move up we can maybe do that, hang the FT on Dak non exclusive tag and get nice draft pick in the first somewhere and still got our stud defender. That could work if not you take the beast available defensive stud on the board and find a way to keep dak..

most likely Trevor is Jet already .... get used to it

Joe Burrow cap numbers:
2020 $6.58M
2021 $8.225M
2022 $9.87M
2023 11.515M

4 year cap number $36.2M

Dak Prescott cap numbers:
2020 $31.4M
2021 (if tagged) 37.7 M

2 year cap number $69.1M

Say again?

We don't have enough to trade for the first pick. Why would anyone even think we have a shot at Lawrence?

I would rather have a safety or a corner. Thats what we need.

so....what is our next QB solution after Lawrence's rookie deal is up?
your not gonna pay him what he's worth either.
so every 4 years we get a new QB since they grow on trees.

I'm not completely against the idea of moving on from Dak due to the salary, however the extra draft capital you could get in a trade back may offset what you would pay Dak for the first four year. I mean lets say you move down from #2 to #8, pick up an extra 2nd and a first next year. That in theory is three very cheap, what should be starting caliber players.

we have our franchise QB.
i'd rather have the CB from bama...or the OT from bama...or the CB from Ohio St.

So we are looking at paying Dak versus the cost to move up and take a chance on the top QB prospect in the draft. Jerry the wildcatter would trade up. I might as well. I like Dak but we have seen his ceiling and Dallas needs a few more years before they are competitive.

In other words, I don’t think Dallas is in position to fully utilize Dak at this point so they might as well take a chance on someone else snd get what they can for Dak.

I really do like Dak but it can’t just be the Dak show the next however many years.

As I watched the DT from Florida play almost an entire game n Mizzou's backfield I started to get very intrigued by him. I am going to be watching this kid very closely going forward as they step up in weight class. Apparently he had missed some of the early games when the Gators did not show well on defense. They had no such issue this week. Keeping an eye on him when they go up against Georgia this week. If he completely destroys their gameplan he gets on the radar. Dude was so explosive off the ball I thought he was offsides like 5 times.. then when I watched the replay he was just that much quicker than the man in front of him. Got my eye on him..

This is the logic I don't understand.

Drafting a QB is always a big risk, even with the first or second pick.

Look at how Philly blundered by trading up to get Wentz #2 overall. Same with the Bears and Trubisky.

Dak has proven he is one of the best in the game. The Cowboys should draft for defense and OL needs.

Trevor Lawrence is a nice college QB, but I’m concerned he may be another Wentz.

If the Cowboys can get the #1 pick they would be able to ask for a kings ransom. 2 first round picks two second picks, good defensive starter from that team as well. Sign Dak and load up with the picks.
I’m not a college football fan so I don’t know how good Lawrence is going to be. However if they believe he is a sure shot to be the next great can’t miss QB, then I would sign and trade Dak. I would think you can get a 1st and some other picks and or a very good defensive starter.
If Lawrence looks good but not sure what his ceiling is you of course stick with Dak.
