I don’t care who the QB is. The fact is this is a less talented offense than we’ve seen in more than a decade.
Throughout the Romo years and the beginning of Dak’s, we had pro bowl if not HOF type receivers. We had a HOF TE talent. We had good to great RBs and a very good OL with Tyron in his prime. What we always have lacked for decades is a competent defense. Now, when healthy, we have a competent defense at worst and the makings of a great one when we complete fixing the run defense.
But this offense is clearly less talented at WR than any offense in many years other than the start of the WR by committee year before trading for Cooper. While we have great depth at TE with a youth movement, we don’t have the quality we had with Witten for many years before the last few. Our OL before injuries was a pleasant surprise, but not what we had with Tyron, Collins, Frederick, Zack, and Free or even when Collins was a young healthy right tackle and the only weak spot was Williams.
There’s a reason we all wanted the Cowboys to lean into the defense and run game. We all know the skill positions and now the OL are compromised. If our defense can play the way they have at times in the playoffs, then the Cowboys should be able to win games with 20-24 points. If they lose because the offense “only” scored 20 against a top defense that averaged giving up 15 points all year, fans will blame Dak, the OL, the play-calling, etc, but the fact is that this year’s team was built to win with defense. Pinning our hopes on an offense with Ceedee, Gallup off knee surgery, and a bunch of nobodies and a 3rd round draft pick was not a plan for scoring big in the playoffs against teams like SF, Philly, TB, etc.
