The 2023 draft is expected to be strong at QB. You could draft one there and move off Dak after 2023. It's a $39M dead cap in 2024 but you're going to a guy on a rookie deal.

I don't think for a minute Jerry and Stephen will go this route. Just saying it is possible.

He has a 2023 $49M cap hit with $89M dead cap. In other words, we can pout til we are blue, so like it or not he's going to be on this team at least until 2024. So all the talk about tanking and getting rid of after this season is just that, talk.

I dunno... if they fall far enough to grab one of the top 2 rated QB's on a rookie contract, I think you do it.
Then pull the Rodgers/Favre maneuver in giving the rook a year to learn while Dak hopefully doesn't flounder too hard.

This can be done and, should the dice fall that way, should be done.

Having Dak and his replacement on the same roster is not prohibited based on cap considerations.

This is exactly what should happen.
But I'm expecting a 3rd contract and with the same or less onfield results as this QB has always had.

It's a gloomy time, the Dak Era.

Also, if you draft a QB in round 1 and Dak plays decent next year. Somebody will do a trade for him including a restructured deal. There are always QB desperate teams out there.

Question is do they extend him or draft a replacement? He will playout his contract here. Cant afford to cut him and cant trade him.

Problem is Jerry normally sees it as they are one player away so he doesn't want to use a top pick on a QB.

He will be on the team and I highly doubt he will be QB1 by the end of his contract........
Let me put it to you in another light.......even Prescott can't take the pressure of the position anymore.
One look at his face tells the tale ........

yes there is 0 reason not to draft his replacement if we have a top 10 pick. It would be idiotic not to. The NFL is a qb league.... dak will be almost 30-31 at that point coming off multiple season with injuries and average play.

You have to plan for the future. New quarterback and parsons as the staples of this team.

And if dak has a problem with us drafting a qb? tell him to cry about it, I don't hate the man at all. But he is set for life with his money. He either will take it as a challenge or sulk. Then we'll find out what he's really made of.

I would agree if he was still on his rookie deal. Now that they are paying him $40M, I'm not sure. I can see them just as you suggested. Making a clean break, saving the money, and going with a rookie. This is the Jones we are talking about. Getting a positive return on their investment is huge and right now that's not happening.

this is the one situation where Stephen jones being a cheap prick could help us.

he will want to dump the high priced contract for a cheap rookie deal.
