Dak's interceptions

Protection will matter as well. If letting Leary go with Free retiring creates a weak link in the line, then Prescott will have to play more under pressure. I know many are glad to see Free go and think replacing him will be easy, but way more often than not last season, Prescott has plenty of time in the pocket to set up, scan the field and deliver the ball.
Free was the weak link in the OL.

I get it.

If what you're trying to do is reassure cliff jumpers, then narrowing down QB performance evaluation to TD:INT ratio seems like a poor tactic.

Not sure why. More interceptions will make them jump. The only thing that will make them jump more is losses, but we might be in the grace period where those won't all be laid at Dak's feet especially if he doesn't play poorly in them ... although that didn't affect opinions on Romo.

I've never understood that argument either. As if trying to show that he wasn't ACTUALLY as good as his numbers said he was. I think Brady only threw 2 INT all year last season. But I remember seeing 2 drops that landed in a defender's hands (and I only watched 2-3 Patriots games all season).

Brady had 2-4 more in the Superbowl alone that could/should have been picked. One that should have been was that Edelman catch.

Now that the Romo era has been wrapped up, it's time to get ready for unrealistic expectations for Dak Prescott.

One of the main one that comes to mind for me are his interception numbers. What he achieved last year, throwing four interceptions as a rookie, is absolutely incredible. We should not be expecting a repeat of that, though. I remember at least four interceptions that were dropped and there might have been more.

Realistically, if he achieves a 3:1 TD-to-int. ratio, he's doing his job as a quarterback. For example, if he throws 15 interceptions, that would look awful, but if it was because we were passing a lot and he also has 45 TDs, those can be good numbers. (I don't expect those numbers and think it should be closer to 30 to 10.)

Also, we should expect Dak to still have some things to work on. He showed a tendency at times last year when there was a little bit of pressure to go up on his tiptoes, which throws off his passes. Overall, he and the coaches did a good job keeping this college tendency at bay, which is one reason he did better than projected. However, we should not be surprised if such technical issues rear their head from time to time and he has to work through them.

When these things happen, I hope we don't lose sight of the big picture with Prescott. We have a good, young quarterback who could be the face of the franchise at the position for the next decade. It's not easy to find those guys and we appear to have had good fortune on our side to get ours in the fourth round.

Very good realistic post. He should have had more ints last year. I am not saying other QBs didn't as well, but he was very lucky (as well as being very good) too.

He'll throw more INTs than he did all of last year by week 5.

The thing with Dak is he doesnt force things 95% of the time. We saw a few times where he did and it resulted in i think 3 of his ints. He takes what the def gives him and plays within the offense. What will make him better then any of the guys from his class is Elliot and the OL. He will be better because he doesnt have to be the hero. But he can as we saw a few times last yr when he had game winning drives. When the team put the ball in his hands at the end of the game and he handled it well.

Dallas fans i have seen are skeptical and i hear the reason most is because he doesnt air it out the way the GB's and other air it out teams do. But thats the thing, Dallas isnt that type of offense. Theyre going to pound you with the running game. With the OL and RB they have why wouldnt they?

Dak was alot better at the end of the yr then when the yr started. The stats were better at the begining but you have to remember they played a easy first half, and basically ended the yr playing teams who every week were playing for their playoff lives.

Dak, Carr, Mariotta are the future elites of the NFL.

Back in the mid 90's when Dirk Nowitzki, Steve Nash, and Michael Finley made a meteoric rise from a 10 win team or there abouts, I made a comment on Mike Fisher's Mavs board that we should all enjoy this praise. It was much like this year with Dak, save for the Romo aspect. But still there were some very pleased Zoners this past season.

Enjoy that, because every wart Dak has and shows this next season will kindle questioning if he was a one year fluke, and why did the team ever allow Romo to leave. Just as certain as water is wet, and Mr. White broke mad.

I think everyone is taking what he did last year for granted, like he will just repeat it. It was pretty remarkable and even a slight sophomore dip will have people on his case.

I fully expect a coming down to earth jolt for him.

Key is how he, and the rest of the team, deal with that and the criticism that will come with it.

I think he will be better for sure. Probably throw more picks because I am not sure its possible to throw less. Him and Dez should be more on the same page this year so that should help things. And I fully expect Zeke to be more involved in the passing game which should help also.

3/1 is great. Not just doing your job. His almost 5/1 year as a rookie was crazy. I think he goes 29/9 next year but more passing yards per game and runs for 10 more.

I'll take the 2016 Dak. Hopefully they don't over-coach him. This team has at times over-coached players which causes the players to think too much instead of just reacting.

The all-time example is Parcells and Julius Jones. Jones was good initially but Parcells beat him down to it Parcells way and Jones lost all of his natural instincts.

Does everyone on here realize that in the history of tht NFL, only twice has a QB thrown at least 450 passes and only 4 ints. Tom Brady in 2010 and Dak last year. Make all the excuse you want, but thatis a fact.

Yes, Brady would have bettered it last year had he thrown a few more passes, but jeez folks. Dak could have another historic year and increase his picks. To expect another 4 pick season seems a little crazy.

Dak is a very smart player who doesn't make a lot of mistakes. Like others have said, he may, and probably will have more INT's next year but he will also have more TD's. The guy is a natural born leader and I can't wait to get the Dak era fully underway.

I don't know how much we'll involve Elliott in the passing game. I know fans lamented Elliott being taken out on third downs for Dunbar, with good reason, but we're liable to see it again this year with McFadden being the third-down back.
