Dak's longest completions this season

Dak is in 9th place amongst all NFL quarterbacks for passes completed over 20 yards.....

And Dak is tied for 1st place with Matt Stafford for passes completed for over 40+ yards.

There was a poster here who claimed Dak couldn't find open receivers downfield and was just "a check down quarterback" this year.... so i asked him to explain his logic vs that stat i posted above.

Lets just say I've been waiting for his response for weeks.

There are some intelligent people here that make good arguments for their lack of faith in Dak. Whether I agree or disagree with them, I still respect their takes.

But why do the other bunch that I refer to as low IQ Dak hating cowards always post lies and post things that never line up with real life facts?

Thats the million dollar question.

First 3 long passes went to a guy named Pickens. Pickens made adjustments to catch the long balls. Is there any doubt that he needs to be resigned.

I don't think a lot fans can appreciate the very fine line between check-downs and holding the ball too long. Your QB needs to be half monk, half hitman...and you are walking that fine line a lot when you are pushing the ball down the field.

Dak and his WRs had an MVP type of season.

It's a shame their efforts were wasted this 2025 season.

Let's hope we can bring the same receiving crew back in 2026 and repeat or best their 2025 effort.

It’s hard to argue that Dak didn’t have a very good season, shame the D was so poor

That's because haters will only point out some specific plays or certain parts of games where that was the case like to the tight end ,but how do we know that that's just not part of the scheme?

those outlet, hot routes, and stuff it's necessary when you're tackles don't block long enough and you have to dump it down plus there's a lot of offenses that have those quick screens quick outs the stuff to the edges,rb screens, and yeah there'll be some games where your yards per throw will be lower, but in no way have I ever thought Prescott was a dumped down guy but the West Coast offense, the Tex Coast offense,

But just in case there's people in here that don't get it some of it is by design in games like say against the Packers where you have a pass rush like that and you need to get the ball out quick you're going to have a much shorter pass as that game and it frustrates those pass rushers like Parsons because they got the ball out on fire on time but they didn't always get them downfield because you're putting your quarterback in harm's way when you hold the ball that long against a an elite pass rush.

they did that more by design it's not Prescott's fault they didn't push the ball down the field all the button hooks and the quick short routes those were things that we were frustrated with as fans,

but that is not something that Schottenheimer does on a regular basis.. He may have a similar offensive scheme because you think he was here as a leftover but this is not the same offense...

nah There were 4 receivers in those highlights besides him please don't use the word must sign there is no such thing we've been discussing that to death we don't really need to start that over.

You see Multiple different receivers catching those big balls might have been five Turpin ,Tobert ,Pickens, Lamb, and Flournoy..

You know what that tells me as a quarterback can do it if they design it right and block it right We don't need Pickens for this offense to look like that I think you're mistaken because you think Mike Mccarthy somehow didn't have the type of players to do that no his West coast offense didn't call a lot of deep throws....

Brian Schottenheimer's offense can open it up for just about anyone on a deep route if they block long enough to get it done.

Look I love Pickens but I'm tired of hearing how it's a must sign it is not a must sign what we must do is have a much better defense and a much better left tackle and if that means saving $30 million and getting a first round pick for George Pickens I'll understand that that's where Jerry goes.....

From a depth/route concept perspective the offense is pretty similar. The difference in the counting stats are simply from volume of passes and different talent levels on offense.

2023 Dak
  • 13% deep throws
  • 20% medium throws
  • 49% short throws
  • 15% behind the LOS

2024 Dak
  • 12% deep throws
  • 18% medium throws
  • 49% short throws
  • 15% behind the LOS
2025 Dak
  • 12% deep throws
  • 20% medium throws
  • 48% short throws
  • 15% behind the LOS
There is certainly some adaptation from when Schottenheimer first got here to today, but those changes are more smaller tweaks than anything and really seem to be in line with evolving league trends more so than higher level philosophy changes in the pass game.

Unless they really get aggressive upgrading the defense I would agree. This offense may look very different without Pickens in the lineup. As the year went on he was a guy who started commanding the double teams. I'd even argue that the running game benefited significantly due to having both Pickens and Lamb in the lineup.

Football is mostly a numbers game and if you have guys who the other team cant beat 1v1 on a consistent basis you typically want to keep those players around.

Pickens catches were contested more so than the others. It is what he does. It is what he did in Pittsburgh as well.
Like Michael Irvin. When the ball is in the air, it is his.

Right contested meaning he wasn't as open and he's not as o and save over 30 million to build the rest of your team the other guys were getting deep balls as well maybe he got open more regularly you wouldn't have to throw it in the coverage put the ball in jeopardy not saying that's a negative I'm telling you I could look at it from a different perspective frank's trying to Get Me Out of town you know until he finished dealing with Calvin pen because he doesn't get open as much as some of the others I get it I get that he can get contested catches but that's not a reason to pass up on a 1st round pick And save over thirty million To build the rest of your team up faster and I get it but maybe if he was open more and quicker we would have to throw it into coverage put the ball in jeopardy I can look at it from a different perspective I didn't say it's a negative but those other guys were more open and didn't have to have contested catches but they're all capable of it
