DAL: Holland Staying or Going?

Montrae Holland Profile

The Dallas Cowboys are showing some interest in re-signing offensive lineman Montrae Holland, but the Washington Commanders and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are also in the mix, according to an NFL source.

The eighth-year veteran, who is an unrestricted free agent, was traded to the Cowboys from the Denver Broncos back in 2008 for a fifth-round pick in this year's NFL Draft. Since joining the Cowboys, he has started in just two games and appeared in seven as a reserve.

Originally a fourth-round pick in the 2003 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints, Holland has appeared in 75 games and started 48, including all 16 during the 2007 season with the Broncos.

If they can resign for the vet minimum then maybe but I'd like to see him get beat out in camp.

I really don't see the point of keeping Holland. We need the spot for a draft pick to develop.

The Skins? That's weird after Shanahan dumped him.

Maybe he wants to brag that cost Jerruh a draft pick and then brough him back for free. I'm sure Danny Boy would love that.

He should be gone.

That was a wasted draft pick.

Tell him to take Proctor with him.

He's a pretty good player but doesn't bring much versatility.

If he could play center that would be huge for us.

He won't be here. They'll hang on to see if anyone nibbles for a 5th-7th rounder but other than that he won't make it to camp.

Competition. Who do we have to be the backup interior linemen right now? Two restricted free agents that aren't that great (Proctor, Preston) and possibly two promising young players (Bright, Brewster).

No reason not to resign Holland if he's cheap.

He's just a progress blocker, IMO.

If he'd sign a vet min deal with no bonus and fight for a spot in camp, that'd be fine with me. Otherwise, I'd rather not commit to a guy who won't commit to getting in game shape.

Hey where are all the *******s who argued with me last year about how Holland was going to press for Kosier's spot?

Was it, or is it just that neither of the Cowboys' guards got hurt last year??

I'm thinking that Holland wasn't active because he can only play guard, and they wanted somebody who could back up both center and guard for emergencies... but if either Bigg or Kosier had gotten hurt and had to miss extended playing time, Holland might well have been the replacement...

I'm not a big Montrae fan, but I can understand why the Boys might be interested in keeping him around, even though he hasn't contributed to the team so far...
