DAL vs TB: Kickoff - Do you elect to go on offense or defense first

I would take the ball and get my offense on the field first. The cowboys are slow starters with that first series for some reason, they often go 3 and out on the first possession, they need to get that one out of the way and get the big guys into to flow so they can go down and score on the next one. I think the Cowboys need to be a team that scores a lot of points this year. I know that they have had some long time consuming drives in the preseason, but I don't think that style of play suits this team. The offense needs to score 24+ points a game IMO. I wouldn't rely on this defense until they prove their not the same defense from the last 2 games of last year.

If we win the toss, defer.

Then I want my defense on the field first. It has been my opinion that a defense can translate the raw emotion that comes with the start of a game to a better performance in overpowering the offense at the get go.

Raw emotion and adrenaline won't make you run crisper routes, it won't make you drop back or scan the field any faster, and it won't make a hole that isn't there magically appear.

If anything, I'd much much rather have my offense on the field second to get them a little toned down from the beginning of the game butterflies.

I'm a firm believer that you want the ball in the hands of your playmakers as much as possible and as early as possible.

I would like to see our offense take the ball and just waste clock and score. That should take the crowd out of it, and our defense will be ready to roll.

I'm almost always going to pick taking the ball first. I just like to have the ball right off the bat.

I'd rather see the defense first, myself. Take the ball at the half.... hey, it works in Madden! lol

No actually it's the opposite... When teams defer that's showing toughness by letting the defense make a statement.

I'd rather defer. Knowing you're going to get the ball in the 2nd half is big, especially if you're able to score right beore the half. Seems like nothing deflates a team more than getting scored on before the half when the other team gets the ball.

Defer, shut the crowd up quickly by holding the Bucs to an easy 3 and out, then our offense will have all the momentum on the following drive...

And, you can can control the clock late in the game when the opposition is tired from the 1st half.

I always prefer to defer and play defense first, then get the ball first in the 2nd half.

I always hoped we'd lose the toss. Since the rule change allowing for a deferral without losing the option to choose to receive the 2nd half kickoff, it now makes sense to defer and here's why.

When you defer the first half kickoff, it gives you an opportunity or back to back posessions sandwiching halftime.

This can only occur if you kickoff to start the game.

Best case senario: You score with less than 30 secs to go in the first half giving the opponent virtually no shot to counter.
You now take the 2nd half KO with a shot to score again without the opposition getting a possesion.

Now if by chance you end up giving up a score with little time left in the 2st half, it doesn't hurt as much since you're getting the 2nd half KO.

One reason I really like this strategy for us is Romo's efficiency in the 2 min drill. Romo has been very good at getting that last min score setting up the back to back scoring sceanrio.

pick heads......then when it lands on heads, the ref will give it to TB....oh wait, that only happens to Pittsburgh....at least the refs were anti-Pittsburgh on one occasion

BTW, I always choose tails. If we win the toss, we take the ball on the road. At home we defer.

Agree...its pisses me the hell off when we defer. Why do you want to put the ball into the hands of he opponent right from the get go, especially if you're away? Time of Possession and wear the hell out of their defense.

I don't get the defer stuff. Always take the ball esp with our offense. Defense is for field position. It's just generally easier to score with the ball in your hands.
