I want to see what Spears can do against Gallery this Sunday. I think given enough playing time he could get 2 sacks this in this game.

Nice to see the Raiders only have 2 sacks. Hard to believe Baltimore only has 1 sack this season, Cortez has more tackles than they have sacks.

Canty, Spears, Fergi need to be starting - its time

I really think that their playing time is about to increase significantly... starting or not.

Ellis and Glover, as usual, are playing well though, so I see no reason to keep them from getting a lot of playing time too.

I'm expecting Spears to have a breakout game here pretty soon. He's just so athletic at his size... once he gets his feet under him a little bit and learns whats going on, he's going to be a load for any G/T combo in the NFL.

They're going to figure out a good rotation soon. It may be that Glover works best with Spears and Canty at the ends... or Spears and Ellis work well with Fergy.

IMO, once it clicks for the D line... they'll improve a lot and start to make some impact plays.

Baltimore went to 4-3 from 3-4.

Same players - go figure!

Spears rushed the passer well against the skins- he was held on the first deep pass to Moss in the 4th- he was horse collared from behind

Canty has also been impressive-

wow what a draft- three dline starters in one draft- how many teams can say that?

i have been saying that all season about the fergy line...i think the glover line should only be in there about 40% of the time too...maybe 35%...they will get their plays on the nickel...glover and ellis

exactly what have Canty and Spears done Nors to start ahead of Ellis, who has been by far this teams best DL?

its time for someone (probably Spears) to replace Coleman though...but Ellis is having a solid yr

I agree, **... And it seems like they're already playing a lot. I wonder how close to 50% of plays they're in on? (Adam?...)

I could have sworn that Baltimore switched to the 46 D this year.

Yeah, brand new defensive scheme and they had a BYE week last week, not to mention the fact that their offense is awful right now, but that isn't new for their offense. I think their D will work itself out, but that offense will out them in plenty of bad situations this year, maybe worse than in the past unless they get the running game going. Their OL play has been bad and Jamal doesn't look like the normal Jamal. Jail may have hurt him more than some thought.

b-more has their problems. but we need to put pressure in the face of collins their running game isn't a threat right now and expect us to pick up some fumbles this week

I think the Cowboys plan this week will be to have Henry and Newman be very physical with the Raiders receivers at the line of scrimmage, then blitz the crap out of Collins from the edges with the linebackers. The Raiders have no running backs who are phenominal out of the backfield and either of our Safeties can cover there TE's with no problem.

If Collins is pressured he will toss it up for a few INT's for sure.

I think that just shows that even defenses with excellent players across the board have trouble initially when making a wholesale change like that. Plus, many of our players are either rookies, or FAs from other teams who also need to get used to playing together.

Being the 23rd rated defense after 3 games is not all that bad, considering. What really excites me is the way they stepped it up the 2nd half of the 49er game. Spears is really still playing in the pre-season, same w/Fergi. The holes I saw Fergi allow in the 1st half just weren't there in the 2nd.

We need to start the Oakland game like we ended the Niners game, or it's going to be a track meet all the way. I wouldn't mind a game where JJ finally gets 165 yards, and we dominate the time of possession.

Spears is the wildcard IMO.

I think by the end of the year he becomes our best DE.

I take the pressure and the turnovers.

We finished for years in the top 10 on defense under Campo, finished number one in 2003 and that got us the pleasure of playing teams close but losing to the good ones because we never pressured the passer and did not create turnovers.

Turnovers are the key. If we can avoid them and create them, we win.

I could care less about the statistical finish of this defense. Those are just numbers.

Look at the Cowboys in the eighties and "Thurman's Thieves". Those were not statistically dominating defenses, but we pressured the QB and caused turnovers. We had some pretty average teams talent-wise and we still made the playoffs consistently until 1985.
