Dallas and San Diego have only meant 9 previous times and the head to head record is 6-3 Cowboys. Most of these games have been close with the largest spread 11 points with one exception; we beat the Chargers 23-9 at San Diego in 1995. This will be the sixth away game for us in the series which started in 1972.

So if history is predictive at all then expect a close game. Of course it isn't but maybe it isn't a coincidence almost all the head to head games have been close. Two pretty good franchises there.

The only history between the Cowboys and Chargers I can think of is Lance Alworth.

I try to forget about Ryan Leaf.

If your definition of "good franchises" includes San Diego, I don't know what to say.

They rank in the bottom quartile for all-time win%, and have never won a championship.

One piece of history between the Chargers and Cowboys was the Cowboys trading Clint Longley to San Diego for a first and second round pick in 1976 after an incident he had with Staubach during the preseason. The fight between him and Staubach led to Longley being suspended by the Cowboys and subsequently traded to San Diego. The Chargers actual made the trade to provide competition for Dan Fouts. lol They figured out pretty quick Longley provided no competition for Fouts and ended up waving him the following season. The trade backfired for San Diego but turned out great for the Cowboys who used the Chargers #1 pick which was 14th overall and traded it to Seattle to help the Cowboys move up to the #2 overall spot where they selected Tony Dorsett.

This was a good game in 1980 - Cowboys and Danny White against Dan Fouts in his prime. It was a school night but I made it into the fourth quarter.

Wow what an exciting game...a lot of talent on that field...Danny played well....both offenses explosive but Dallas defense stepped up at crucial times.... Cossell would not give Dallas credit for anything! Lol Thanks for the videos.
