Dallas Cowboys 2017 Rookie Class: Midseason grades

https://thelandryhat.com/2017/11/08/dallas-cowboys-2017-rookie-class-midseason-grades/

...Taco Charlton, DE
2017, First Round - 28th overall
C

There is likely no rookie in the entire Cowboys’ draft class under more scrutiny than Taco Charlton. Being the first round pick always comes with unrealistic expectations. Not everyone is going to lead the league in rushing their first season, like Ezekiel Elliott did in 2016. But the main difference here is that Zeke was the fourth overall selection. And Taco, the 28th.

Dallas even admitted to having a second round grade on Charlton. They knew Taco was raw when they drafted him and that it would take some time to get him up to speed. And that it has.

In fact, Charlton looks to be on a similar trajectory that former second round pick DeMarcus Lawrence was when he arrived in Dallas four years ago. But injuries stunted Lawrence’s growth. Hopefully, Taco develops much quicker.

Charlton did record his first NFL sack last Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. He hopes it the first of many, but only time will tell. Through eight games, Taco has recorded six total tackles, one pass defend and that single sack. He’s slowly improving with limited snaps, but I wouldn’t count on the 23-year old having a much bigger impact through the rest of his rookie season...

I agree, it is a fair assessment. I have been pleasantly surprised with both Lewis and Wood and, after all the hype, a bit disappointed in Switzer. I still believe Awuzie will be the star of this group -- provided he gets over the injury issues

On a side note, I might be inclined to "fail" Taco just for his sack dance

Well maybe this draft class will teach the Joneses they actually have to spend some money in free agency instead of thinking they can outdraft the entire league every year.

One big free agent signing every year or two, all I ask. And not a bunch of jags, has-beens, or never was.

I'd imagine it's easy to get arrogant with Will McClay in your war room.

Very true, but its easier to not need a big free agent when your drafting in the top 10, not as easy when your at #28.

If we know we are drafting at the bottom of the draft, we should be more aggressive in free agency.

And yes, they are showing way too much arrogance.

Chidobe Awuzie needs to pull his thumb out and contribute.
So far it's a C- grade and thats pulled up by an A for Lewis.

Bottom line. It's not good enough

grades are like stats some people put to much into them. first its way to early, second this draft class had a few players asked of them to play early and three, our drafts overall have been better. It wasnt the best haul, but it wasnt bad. Woods and Lewis are bringing it up, Switzer is at a cross roads and lets face it, no one hits on all draft picks.
