Dallas Cowboys 50th Anniversary Team

percyhoward, how much did you consider John Fitzgerald or Dave Manders as one of the centers? Maybe they weren't as good or as honored as I remember. Maybe I'm just not a Gurode fan.

Anybody care to venture a guess as to why Jerry didn't do a 50th Anniversary Team this year?

I'm stumped.

The same reason he's not inducting players into the Ring of Honor this year because........................

I'm stumped too.

I don't think the team's history is as important to Jerry as it is to many of us long-time fans. Simple as that.

Change at DT? Ratliff is already on the team, and he's certainly not going to challenge Lilly or White anytime soon, if ever.

And Newman and Jenkins have a long way to go to match any of the four cornerbacks on the list.
Lilly and White are untouchable, but Ratliff can still move up my list from 4th to 3rd. And I'm high on Jenkins, as well as Bryant, who's already a Pro Bowl behind him.

You must have some thoughts on why Jerry chose not to have a 50th Anniversary Team. (Assuming there's not going to be some kind of surprise announcement)

I agree Chief, Jerry just is not interested in Cowboys history prior to his buying the team.

Good list Percy. I'd only make a couple of changes in the ordering but otherwise very good.

I wouldn't call myself a Gurode fan either. It's just hard to ignore the Pro Bowl selections, which is why I went Glover over Pugh and Haley over Jeffcoat. That said, I'm always prepared to defer to someone who actually saw the guys play, and I'm too young to remember Manders and Pugh's best years. Obviously, Pugh was underappreciated.

Good point on the Pro Bowl selections. I went back and looked and Manders only was named once. Fitzgerald was a very consistent solid starter for a nice stretch of years, but never was named to the Pro Bowl that I can see. Tom Rafferty might even rank above them.

Thanks, and I hope you don't hold out on those changes. :)

Bottom line--we've never had a great center. There aren't many positions you can say that about.
