With the recent interview with Miles Austin talking about how he wasn't in good physical shape last season it has me thinking.

Is it me or does there seem to be this attitude among some players, previous and current, where they get to Dallas and then just chill. I'm starting to get the feeling that some players think that because Dallas has a strong history and is "America's Team" they don't have to work as hard. Like the past will win them Super Bowls and they don't have to put in the blood, sweat, and tears. Reading the Miles Austin quote actually pissed me off a lot.

Here's an idea, instead of coasting on the :starspin , try representing it.

Yeah there have been a number of players who have said similar things the past few years.

I dont know....same thing in a way could be said when Jimmy Genius was here.....

Did he let players get away with doing drugs and cheat on their wives and girlfriends? You can even go back to his Miami college days and see how he ran a loose ship concerning off field antics.

But we didnt question.....because we won....

I think players nowadays work as hard in the offseason as they did 10-20 yrs ago....just imho

Do players get lazy with a big contract? Sure they do....always have...always will......I dont think it has anyting to do with the Cowboys star...

But then again.....we get pissed because we hear Romo playing Golf.....so go figure....we all know Troy concentrated on football 24\7 12 months a year

Not just Cowboy problem . First thing i thought about when i heard Miles quote was Chris johnson who said basically the same thing fresh off his new 53+ million dollar contract

I don't get pissed when I hear Romo is playing golf. I think players need a life outside of football and a way to escape the game for a bit. But, I also think there is a lack of leadership for the very reason I mentioned above. No one feels the need to step up because they are letting the past lead.

Also, the players who were doing drugs back in the 90's were also the players who were known throughout the entire league to be the hardest workers, aka Michael Irvin.

I read what Miles said I have no issue with it. Players work out allot on their own but it does not compare to the work they get when they get the benefit of the faculties and the coaches. Hell if the coaches did not play a part why have them? They do serve a purpose to push players beyond what they think they can do.

Don't confuse lack of success with complacency. Miles was injured in the second game and never got back to 100% healthwise. It happens all the time. Football shape takes longer than returning to the field. I'm sure the current Cowboys want to represent the star, but the overall talent/chemistry/whatever just hasn't been there. You can't tell me that they don't try and they don't care. The entire organization is under tremendous pressure to succeed. Complacent? I just don't believe that.

The lax attitude of the team is a result of not having strong leadership at HC. I feel it's played a significant role in the Dec swoons and the butt kickings we've seen in the last 3 do or die games since 08. The players view the HC as just another one of Jerry's yes men who have little say. Until the players believe their HC is in charge and calls the shots things aren't going to change. Seeing Jerry come down to the field during games talking with Garrett doesn't look good it undermines the HC .

I agree. I don't hear Houston fans questioning Andre Johnson who also was dealing with an hamstring for pretty much all of last season. Even when he returned to the lineup he was not close to his ability and then he reinjured the hamstring. It is one of those injuries that can plague a player throughout the season.

I'm not confusing lack of success with complacency. Just think of our star receiver who people said was out of shape last year and couldn't remember plays. That doesn't sit well with me. It's more than just him.

I can get on board with a bit of this.

He did not say he was out of shape. He said he did not think his conditioning was as good as it was in the past.

Is there much of a difference?

Yes there is a differance. Players can work out all they want but in the end what coaches and conditioning coaches bring to the table matter, if they did not matter why would a team even need or hire them? They push the players to act like Miles was just sitting around not working out is a joke. Many WR had to deal with hamstrings and yes the lock out hurt a lot of guys. People can say well that is an excuse all they want it is also a fact. It is no excuse for the Cowboys in general since everyone was in the same boat but to the individual player yes losing that time makes a differance for them

players can try something different, only to see it backfire.

felix gained weight to prove he could be durable, and it cost him in speed.

that's not complacency, it's hard work that brings unintended consequences.

miles austin is a free agent who worked his way into a starting role. he's not complacent. but he may have learned something about the way he needs to treat his body.

emmitt smith was a pro bowler before he started taking care of himself. after he injured his hamstring, he realized he needed help -- so he hired a chiropractor to keep him from reinjuring it. do you think he was complacent before that? i don't.

******* it.

You have a player who is out there busting his *** to get ready to have a good season and is being critical of himself because he did not have a great one last year. And you turn that into some suggestion that he is a prima donna who just doesn't care and wants to coast.

Newsflash: prima donnas who don't have a work ethic never criticize themselves for not achieving excellence. Nor do they bust their *** to try to improve. Rather... they coast---exactly what you are accusing Austin of doing.

It is a good fricking sign to see players busting *** because they are disappointed in themselves. How you people can spin this into some grand narrative about the metaphysical problem with the team is astounding. It's the same crap after Spencer was critical of himself. A bunch of morons started posting that he admitted to being lazy and quitting on the team. Then that stupid ignorant **** got reposted and reposted until people believed it to be true.

Stop it. Quit twisting crap and cramming it into your narratives.

First, calm down. It's going to be okay.

I never meant to imply Miles Austin is a prima donna. I'm not even sure where you're getting that idea from.

The culture has been the biggest problem with this organization for years. Long as the checks dont bounce its all good.
