Dallas Cowboys defense missed 12+ tackles vs the Buccaneers

If you’ve read ANY posts from the specific member I’m referring to, you should be able to recognize that, no matter how many different ways he spins it, he always ends up blaming Dak for not just the offensive issues but the defensive ones as well. He even likes to go as far as insinuating that the players can’t do THEIR jobs because they don’t have faith in Dak. So, THAT is my proof…

Nice shade on MP.

Now do CP.
Well, as an Iggles fan, I had pointed out that the Birds didn't fight to keep CP, which they could have done if they considered him Fangio's heir-apparent. But, like everybody here, I had no idea how he'd do, which is why I suggested that some posters were getting over their skis when anointing him the savior of the defense.

Pettine's record is, to put it mildly, mixed at best. Especially when it comes to stopping the run.

From Wikipedia (I know, I know):

"On January 10, 2018, Pettine was hired as defensive coordinator by the Green Bay Packers by head coach Mike McCarthy.[8] On December 2, 2018, the Packers fired McCarthy after a 20–17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals at home, and he was replaced by interim head coach Joe Philbin. On January 7, 2019, the Packers hired Matt LaFleur as their new head coach, who announced he would retain Pettine as defensive coordinator through the 2019 season.

During his time with the Packers, Pettine improved the Packers defense from the league's 29th ranked unit in 2018[9] to the 15th ranked unit in 2019[10] and 17th ranked in 2020.[11] However, he was widely criticized for his calls in the playoffs, particularly in the Packers' losses in back-to-back NFC Championship games. In the 2019 NFC Championship Game, Pettine's defense gave up 285 rushing yards to the NFC champion San Francisco 49ers, on their way to a 37–20 loss. In the 2020 NFC Championship Game, the Packers defense picked off quarterback Tom Brady three times, but also gave up a late first-half touchdown when Pettine called for cornerback Kevin King to cover receiver Scotty Miller one-on-one. Pettine's call was widely criticized by many, including his own head coach.

On January 29, 2021, Pettine was let go by the Green Bay Packers as the defensive coordinator; his contract had expired and the Packers reportedly did not move to extend it.[12]"

My only point is that this guy isn't exactly riding to the rescue. He was, at best, a middle of the pack DC, and he hasn't served as one since 2021. And he retired after the 2025 season. So, he'll watch, he'll advise, and perhaps make some difference around the margins. Or, perhaps not.

If you’re gonna go after the body of work, and I agree he isn’t the knight riding in to save us, at least look at the full body of work.

With the jets in 09 he had the highest ranked defense in the league. They were number 1. Over the next 3 seasons they were 3,5 and 8th respectively.

In buffalo in 2018 he ran a top 10 defense. And in Green Bay his defenses were 18th in 2018 and 2019 in 2020 he got them to number 9 so another top 10 finish.

All the while being a defensive coordinator for 8 total seasons guiding teams that made 4 championship games. That’s not nothing. Now, did he struggle in those championship games ? Yes he was called out but he has vast experience calling defenses capable of going on deep playoff runs. 5 out of his 8 seasons as a coordinator he’s led top 10 units.

For a franchise that hasn’t been past the divisional round in 30 years, let’s not scoff at that

Well, Rex Ryan was the Jets' coach at the time. We're talking 2009-2011. Needless to say, Pettine didn't have the total reigns on that D, which was some 15-17 years ago.

And, according to the article I quoted:

"Pettine improved the Packers defense from the league's 29th ranked unit in 2018[9] to the 15th ranked unit in 2019[10] and 17th ranked in 2020."

Not sure where you got that 'another Top 10 finish'.

I stand by my point. Which is, he's not riding to the rescue. A seasoned voice? Sure. A difference-maker? Unlikely.

Our Cowboys defense made Buccaneers RB, Bucky Irving, look like the next coming of Barry Sanders! It was that poor of a defensive tackling performance.

Let's hope newly added Coach Pettine can light a fire under our defense's behind and get them to start tackling the way they should.

I wouldn't like being on the D side of the ball these days. So many rules about tackling make it very confusing about how you can and can't take down a ball carrier. I remember when ESPN showed a segment on hard hits. Granted, player safety has to be a concern, but it can be taken too far.

Well he coached the packers d in 2020 and they finished top 10. So that’s where I got it from lol.

Number 2 - you can’t cherry pick someone’s body of work to only focus on the negative, look at the total body of work. You can’t just disregard what he did at the jets. lol.

Lastly, he’s been a d coordinator for 8 years and for 4 of them his teams have made it to the championship game. Your whole promise is faulty, as in week 5 now there is no savior coming mid season- that’s obvious.

However he’s a quality defensive coach regardless of how you wanna just isolate the points that fit your narrative

"17th-ranked in 2020." LOL.

Dude you can’t read or comprehend - they were 17th in scoring defense…..9th in overall team defense Which is the traditional total defense ranking.
Oh. 16 teams allowed fewer points than the Pack. That's middle of the pack, Dude.

BTW, you can stick the condescension where the sun don't shine.

Some done made it to the Big Top. Some got the Big Bag. All making business decisions now. As far as tackling go...

Again, the overall team defense rank was 9th. But you still cherry pick one year and disregard the other years that deflate your argument but that’s typically a tactic of people who low iq.

Regardless, the idea that anyone was a white knight coming to save us nearly mid season and several games into the year is moronic. However, adding a solid coaching veteran like pettine to help Parker is a sound decision

There has gotta be some quick improvement, good lads.
You have to give Dak and company a breather.
I want to see a ferocious pass rush and Porter in the mix.

There’s several here like that.

Let me guess...it was those 35 preseason plays they missed 2 months ago that caused this?
