Our Cowboys defense made Buccaneers RB, Bucky Irving, look like the next coming of Barry Sanders! It was that poor of a defensive tackling performance.

Let's hope newly added Coach Pettine can light a fire under our defense's behind and get them to start tackling the way they should.

When was the last time you remember a good tackling cowboys team, it’s been a long time

Pettine's record is, to put it mildly, mixed at best. Especially when it comes to stopping the run.

From Wikipedia (I know, I know):

"On January 10, 2018, Pettine was hired as defensive coordinator by the Green Bay Packers by head coach Mike McCarthy.[8] On December 2, 2018, the Packers fired McCarthy after a 20–17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals at home, and he was replaced by interim head coach Joe Philbin. On January 7, 2019, the Packers hired Matt LaFleur as their new head coach, who announced he would retain Pettine as defensive coordinator through the 2019 season.

During his time with the Packers, Pettine improved the Packers defense from the league's 29th ranked unit in 2018[9] to the 15th ranked unit in 2019[10] and 17th ranked in 2020.[11] However, he was widely criticized for his calls in the playoffs, particularly in the Packers' losses in back-to-back NFC Championship games. In the 2019 NFC Championship Game, Pettine's defense gave up 285 rushing yards to the NFC champion San Francisco 49ers, on their way to a 37–20 loss. In the 2020 NFC Championship Game, the Packers defense picked off quarterback Tom Brady three times, but also gave up a late first-half touchdown when Pettine called for cornerback Kevin King to cover receiver Scotty Miller one-on-one. Pettine's call was widely criticized by many, including his own head coach.

On January 29, 2021, Pettine was let go by the Green Bay Packers as the defensive coordinator; his contract had expired and the Packers reportedly did not move to extend it.[12]"

My only point is that this guy isn't exactly riding to the rescue. He was, at best, a middle of the pack DC, and he hasn't served as one since 2021. And he retired after the 2025 season. So, he'll watch, he'll advise, and perhaps make some difference around the margins. Or, perhaps not.

We make a lot people look like they're dynamic!!

I read a recent post on this site that basically said these players missed these tackles because they have no faith in their QB.

I think one of the reasons the games are so sloppy anymore is the lack of padded practice
and to be blunt teaching proper tackling technique is neglected anymore at all levels

The cowboys defense just seems to lack attention to detail all around. If one player is struggling with tackling it’s an individual issue. When the entire unit is struggling with tackling it’s a coaching issue. Tackling is typically the result of poor form and poor discipline.

To be fair to CP it’s tough to teach tackling in a league that barely lets contact happen in practices, but ultimately thats part of the job is to figure it out.

Middle of the pack is much better that the bottom feeder we have. Any coach that has been there, done that....will help a rookie DC, tremendously. Many of these missed tackles are from being misaligned. Trying to tackle as you're making up ground is much harder than tackling as you stand your ground.

Well the LBers stink so...there was a checkdown to Irving where Winters and Barham BOTH missed lol.

The bigger problem is just gap integrity. If you're good there, then a missed tackle doesn't kill you because there's nowhere for a runner to go. There are a bunch of examples from the TB game (Gary, Barham in particular).

Nice shade on MP.

Now do CP.

Bad hire on CP.

MP brought in to “teach” CP.

MP takes over as Boss DC.

CP quietly leaves in January.

Also…

Shotty leaves?

Tomlin is HC?
