Size: 6-5, 333 pounds
Combine 40-yard dash time: 5.40
(Look for No. 65 in this Graham Harrell highlight)
POSITIVES
He did 39 reps of the 225-pound bench press at the Combine, displaying the necessary strength to play on the interior at the next level. He was a three-year starter and can play a little nasty, which is another plus for playing inside.
NEGATIVES
Like Texas Tech quarterbacks, the system could hurt his stock. He did not spend much time in a three-point stance because of the pass-happy system. Some believe he might be too heavy and worry about his conditioning. He's looked at as a mauler with limited athletic ability to help him get to linebackers in the running game.
COWBOY FIT
Kyle Kosier is coming off a year in which he played three games and is signed through 2010. Backups Montrae Holland and Cory Procter are in the last year's of their deals and could be gone, depending on the collective bargaining talks with the NFLPA. The Cowboys need to replenish the interior of the line and he could be available later on the second day of the draft. He would have time to develop because of the depth in front of him and he would be cost-effective.
TEXAS TECH OFFENSIVE LINE COACH MATT MOORE
"You don't really replace a guy like that with a young guy. He just had so much experience and he's such a good player on top of it that it's tough to replace a guy so big, and strong and physical and understands the game. He controlled the line of scrimmage for us. I don't think [the system hurts him]. The Eagles guy was in here the other day and he was loving the way he protects and gets off the ball. The thing about us, a lot of teams work their protections where it's a gap protection so you're picking up a guy if he comes in your gap or you're helping with the double team. With us, it's so much man protection as far as staying with this guy no matter where he goes. They like that because they see his one on one pass pro where our guys have to react to different moves, outside moves, inside moves. It's hard to get a good feel for an offensive lineman when you don't know how well he reacts to an inside move or outside move. Look at the NFL and tell me who is getting more money - a really good run blocker or a good pass blocker? The pass protection is what they're looking for. It's hard for an unathletic guy to play for us. It's easier for him to play if you're a big, unathletic guy and you play in an offense where you push people around. We can't hide guys like that. We throw so many screens and throw so much and put them in space so much with our splits that they have to be an athlete first and good feet and big body guys. With us every snap is like third and long for everybody else. Everybody knows you're going to throw it and you've got to protect when everybody knows you're throwing it. That's what makes us different. He's a really strong kid. That's come naturally to him but he's worked hard in the weight room. I've never seen him overpowered on film at all.
