Me included. Many years ago, we complained that we didn't have a starting quarterback who could throw a spiral, or later on, didn't have a starting quarterback with even marginal mobility.

Fast Forward to 2010, every last one of us feels cheated that we are not going to see the development of our third string Tight End from last year.

I know, I know, he looked like a potential starter, and a possible clone of Jason Witten....

but still! This is an exciting group of players.

Our defense will have to carry this team if we are going to go to a superbowl. Our offense is above average, but that is all. Phillips was not going to make us a great offense. We do however have a chance to be a great defensive team.

That is pretty funny. But the thing is John Phillips might have been that extra piece to help us get over the hump. We just don't know right now.

It's one thing to lose a player the first game of the year...even the first play of the first game.

But as bad as it sucks you know he went down while battling the opposition, while fighting for a W.

Losing guys now is like losing a guy through "Friendly Fire." It sucks in the worst kind of way.

Camp/preseason time is merely
P R E P A R A T I O N

What kind of army loses 5 or 10% of it's fighting force just prepping it's soldiers. This is madness.

I blame Nixon. Nixon did it.

I agree with you, I'm angry about losing John Phillips, but then I remember...

I meet kids 5-6 years younger than me who complain about how much Dallas chokes and how much this player sucks or that player sucks...

I just tell them tales of Aveon Cason, Troy Hambrick, Drew Henson and Chad Hutchinson and they drop to their knees and thank God that they didn't have to watch us sign Ryan Leaf because he was better then what we had

Its true, imo. Our defense is elite. Our offense is not.

We have a lot of star power, but our offense is not as good as many on this forum believe.

Besides our penalty problems and our red zone mediocrity, we also tend to play conservative with a lead. Our offense has never shown a consistent killer instinct and we don't impose our will in the 4th quarter - the most important.

We averaged 21 points per game last year. 21. That is not elite.

We are a great offense between the 20's in open space, but we have many deficiencies that elite offenses do not have.

I think we have a shot at being a championship team, but if we win the Superbowl, our defense will be seen as the major reason.

Uh, we were second in the NFL in total offense last year, 4 YPG behind the World Champions and the team that most would use as the benchmark for offensive potency in the NFL today

He's either trolling or completely clueless. Either way it's not worth the effort.

We averaged 22.6 PPG last year. If we had matched the NFL average for FG percentage last year, we would have averaged nearly 25 PPG, which would have been good for 9th best in the league.

Our biggest offensive issue was (and still is) the kicking game

Do you consider Indianapolis and New England to have elite offenses? Had we not been the worst FG kicking team in football last year, we would have averaged 1 PPG and 1.5 PPG less than those two teams

Look whose self imposed hiatus is over.

Kudos that you were a man of your word.

Agreed. And you can also factor in that our average starting field position was poor due to the defense's lack of turnovers.

I'll add though... I think our D was on the rise the past six weeks of last season and will be even better this year.

It was made easier by the first playoff win since I was 10 :laugh2:

I think I gained some perspective as well. When I was younger a win was a win, regardless of how it came. I had gotten to the point however where I would find numerous things that bothered me even in wins. Now I'm just going to again accept wins for what they are, wins, and that makes watching the game more fun.

So we were 3 PPG worse than 9th in the league? 9th is not elite. lol.

What the hell kind of an argument is that?

We were not an elite offensive team last year and there is no reason to believe that we will be this year. However, as I said before, we have an above average offense and a potentially great defense. That might be enough.
