I think most are missing the point of the article.

People are making too big of a deal about what has happened in the preseason games, particularly on offense, yet we really haven't put out anythingclose to our opening day offense out there.

It's all about perspective. If you want to look at a couple spots, we can really get excited. This young DL is playing well. Our secondary has played well. Our TE's look really good. Yet there are people getting freaked out. As one poster stated, we are throwing guys out there to see if they can sink or swim. Other teams just might have different agendas. The Niners brought a ton of blitzes last night, I don't recall us doing much if any of that.

True. You hit it.

What's funny is how terrible the offense has been, but the defense has held up. Again, it's all individual evaluation.

You may think this is a joke. It is not. Read on.

After two preseason games, the Dallas Cowboys lead all NFL defenses in yards allowed and passing yards allowed. You find that hard to believe? Here is the visual evidence, straight from the stats section of NFL.com:

Odds are, a significant part of the people reading this post right now are thinking, "No way, Jose, that's got to be a mistake. After all, didn't the Cowboys just get clobbered for the second straight preseason game?"

It is true that the Cowboys lost their first two games by a combined 40-13. It is also true that the Cowboys have the best defense in the league (as measured by yards allowed) and the best pass defense in the league (as measured by passing yards allowed).

Still finding that hard to believe? Let me walk you through it.

The Chargers passed for a total of 75 yards against the Cowboys a week ago. They were sacked three times for 11 combined yards, which leaves the Chargers with 64 net passing yards against the Cowboys.

The 49ers passed for just 71 yards last night. The Cowboys notched three sacks for a combined 21 yards, wich resulted in exactly 50 net passing yards for the 49ers.

Chargers for 64, 49ers for 50. That's 114 net passing yards over two games or 57 passing per game, the exact number NFL.com is showing for the Cowboys.

It's preseason. No need to go crazy in a positive or negative nature over the whole team performance when the whole starting team is not playing.

It is nice to help look at young players like Gregory to see if the flash and other young depth players.

Other than that it is not much that can be taken from a team who plays vanilla on both sides of the ball in preseason and is clearly not playing some of their best players to keep them from getting injured.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Wait. So now preseason matters?

I am so confused.

Ya know, if Dallas can maintain those averages over the regular season the team will probably be undefeated.

Even though the stats are meaningless my lying eyes are telling me that we will have a pretty good defense this year. We have the pieces in place to pressure teams, pressure leads to turnovers and turnovers lead to victories.

It's preseason. The numbers are imaginary.

Though I will say that a couple of our pressure players and a couple of our CBs have looked pretty good. We'll have a great test right off the bat in the Giants.

Corey White had a couple of really nice plays yesterday. Looking like a significant upgrade over Moore.

Thank you! Hardly anyone is talking about this guy, & all he's done is helped solidify a shaky secondary. These first two games, he's had several passes defended, & has tight coverage every time I watch him. At 6-1, 205, he's a prototypical corner. While I didn't like losing Moore, this guy looks tailor made to play in our defense. It would go a long way in allowing Byron Jones to focus on becoming a great FS, if White continues to dominate his man.
