Yeah, while I didn't think he deserved a spot over Keegan or Leverett, I acknowledge that the vision with him is more long term/developmental. They didn't waive him because of that, knowing that as a fourth-rounder it would have been hard to get him through waivers.
When you draft to build for the future this is what it takes. Every team does it. You don't draft on day 3 for today.
I really think some fans don't understand that the practice squad is now an extension of the roster. You can go short at a position on the 53 and keep players at the position on the PS because you can bring up two players each week. You can also protect up to four players each week.
Yeah, but he did suck while Keegan and Leverett looked pretty good. But I don't think we'll have a problem getting Leverett to the PS. Keegan might get claimed, though.
I think it is because he's mainly going to be playing the slot position, which is typically classified as a cornerback, but he's considered a safety. Ultimately, he's probably going to end up playing some safety, too, even if they limit him to nickel at the start of the season. I think he'll eventually push Hooker to the bench and Hooker will only play when we're in nickel and Downs moves into the slot.

Hard to believe that two of those guys were once on our roster, too ... and neither ultimate proved to be worth it. Hope it turns out better for Brown. I feel that he already showed more as a rookie in preseason than we saw from Brooks and Fehoko, who may have benefited from the experience of being in the league for a few years.
And if teams want, they can protect the same four players all year long. So it's essentially like having a 57 man roster in that regard.
I think we'll park Shelton on the inactive list for a season and let him try to develop. I've seen enough of Carson, though. Hopefully, we'll bring in a corner and replace him.
