Few team logos are basic and clean. It's what makes them great. The Dallas Cowboys Star is the best example. The Texas Longhorns logo is another.

So can someone tell me how the heck is The U so far down the list???

Because there are better ones than the U? I can think of a few college ones better.

My opinionated response would be no, yes, yes, and no.

I just don't get why The U logo is in the teens. Well, I guess it's good that it's not lower on the list.

Well it's ahead of ND's and MSU's on that list so I would say they are lucky to only be in the teens.

I wouldn't put it in the Top 5-7 of college logos.

Horrible list. They got Dallas right, and that's it.

Packers, Steelers, Colts, Saints, Raiders, Bears, Chiefs, Chargers.....some great NFL logos missing.

And Golden State? What? Uh, the Bulls perhaps? Hello, McFly, anybody home?

to be fair, after the Star...none of the others matter. Just throw a dart at a wall and write em down

This just in, the Dallas Cowboys have the No. 1 rated logo in all of American sports.

For The Win, as part of USA Today Sports, came up with their 30 best logos and the white and blue star topped the list. Here's the criteria they used to determine the top logos.

After looking through the official logos of each of the 300+ professional and college sports teams in the United States, one thing became clear: There’s no rhyme or reason to what makes a great sports logo. Some are clean and simple. Others are delicate and intricate. Some have hidden messages. Others have all the subtly of an episode of Bachelor in Paradise. Some include the team names. Others go without it. The NHL has the best logos, while the NFL has the worst. Colleges, surprisingly, have generally boring logos despite all the odd mascots that would theoretically make for interesting illustrations. Through all that, FTW selected the 30 best logos in American sports, a top 19 for logos currently in use and 11 more historical logos no longer used (though they should be).

You better know it.

My oldest daughter, Payton, will be 5 this September. I live in western PA, easily Steeler's country with my wife who is a Steelers fan, along with her entire Steelers-lovin family and relatives.

Needless to say, my daughter loves the Cowboys, just like her daddy. The Star definitely brought it home. Not only that, but the color blue is not just blue to her, but it's "Cowboy's blue". That goes for anything that happens to be the color blue, i.e. cars, clothes, signs, etc.

She cannot wait till she can once again wear her navy blue, Nike, Jason Witten replica jersey for game days. The girl is hooked.

I hear you Fletch. My 11 year old is the same way. We are going to Dallas in September for the Atlanta game and I promised her a new Romo jersey for the game. She insisted on a " real" jersey not a ladies jersey because it did not look like Romo's jersey. Love it!!

Right on DAL1180! I love reading stuff like this. Your daughter sounds a lot like mine, just an older version. I like your avatar of you and your daughter. Ya'll definitely represent well.

There were some awful logos on that list. I'm surprised the Yankees logo wasn't on there, but the Stanford Cardinals were?!?!?

I believe the logo is the exact reason I became a Cowboys fan. I have lived in Wisconsin my entire life and my parents tell me I have like the Cowboys since I was 5. And that was Aikmans rookie season so I didn't jump on the bandwagon. So my only logical guess is the Star. It truly is the best logo. Simple but just perfect

Ahh yes, but that isn't the logo I was talking about. I meant this one. (which I think is much better than the other)

yankees-logo.png
http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/nyy/history/uniforms_logos.jsp

The Yankees' MLB.com site refers to that symbol as an insignia than as the franchise logo. The definitions are similar but different:

insignia
noun in·sig·nia \in-ˈsig-nē-ə\
: a badge or sign which shows that a person is a member of a particular group or has a particular rank

logo
noun \ˈlō-(ˌ)gō also ˈlä-\
: a symbol that is used to identify a company and that appears on its products

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/insignia

It's splitting hairs but it may be the reason why one was considered while the other one wasn't. Personally, I like the basic and clean design of the N-Y-Y better.
