I think the RB thing can be explained by Mike’s belief that any capable RB can do the work as long as the line and blocking scheme are fine. He’s always cycled through RB’s.

Also, the team could be completely confident that Ronald Jones can handle 8-12 Carrie’s a game. That’s all we really need since Pollard will handle 15 or so touches and Deuce gets his 8 total.
That suggests to me that Pollard won't be here after this year. Why give him a big contract when you can find a cheaper option in next year's draft. Deuce also duplicates some of his skill sets. Like I said in another post, I think this offense will be a work in progress over the next couple of seasons.

I am totally good with this. Anything resembling a run first down hill type of scheme with selective over the top play action attempts is the way to go.
They did it magically well in 2016 with Linehan. They did a strong 2 headed monster version for about the first 6 to 7 games under Moore in 2021 before injuries kinda nixed it.

Limit the pass volume with effective and efficient run design.

It all surely sounds good.
I am somewhat skeptical because of this past HC and QB1 history of wanting to be pass first mentality but will try and hold out hope for their actions to support their words.

Best I can do.
Fair and reasonable response.

I believe it's only to start the season since Ferguson has a 1 year experience compared to the inexperienced rookie Schoonmaker. As the season goes along, that definitely can change. Heck, we might see both TEs on the field at the same time during certain run plays.
I think you will see both in the 12 personnel with Hendershot playing fullback in three tight end sets. I just can’t imagine a 2nd round 25 year old tight end with experience in the new MM system, not being the number 1 tight end when we go to the 3 receiver sets.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong but while strategically there may be some similarities to the 90's cowboys in that the team will run to set up the pass, the tactics will be very different. The 90's Cowboys ran a pretty straight at you blocking scheme out of the I with a FB leading the way and rarely had two TE sets. They put a lot on Emmitt to read the hole, set up blockers, etc. The described system is going to be largely out of the gun and include lots of overload blocking, including guard pulls and multiple tight ends.

I think its going to look a LOT like the Michigan offense. At least, the run game part. The pass game is going to be McCarthy.

You nailed it, the FO won’t give another back a big deal. Now if Pollard takes a 3 for 33 I’m good with it because of how little tread he has.

Obviously there will be kinks to work out with a new offense, but Mike said there’s only a 30% change. To me this is more situational and formation ratios.

Martz indicated that Moore was running a mix of his and Mikes offense. This is why we saw miscommunication between Mike and Moore (admitted by Mike once Moore was let go) and this is also why we saw some sloppy designs and gaps in schematics because there were some blind spots in the schematic marriage.

I think Mike has a clear idea of the changes he wants to make and I don’t think it’ll take multiple seasons to do so, especially if he’s truthful about it only being a 30% change.

Moore was going for fireworks, Mike seems to be going for efficiency.

I want a team with an outstanding O-line and a powerful running game, like we had in 2014 and 2016. In '14, our great running game tool pressure off Romo, and he had the best season of his career. In 2016, the great running game helped Dak to play extremely well in his rookie year.

When your running game is great, everything is not on your quarterback's shoulders. When you can run it down their throats, other teams have to bring up 8-man fronts, and that opens up more good passing lanes down the field.

I have to admit I'm confused about the direction on offense:

  • Is it McCarthy's offense or is it Schottenheimer's offense?
  • McCarthy's been emphasizing the running game but I remember his Green Bay's offenses to be more pass oriented.
  • We drafted a very good blocking TE but the TE I associate with McCarthy's Green Bay offenses, Jermichal Finley, seems to be more of a big WR rather than an all around blocking TE.. The two TE's reportedly at the top of our draft board, LaPorta and Kincaid, are more down the field types like Finley not especially noted for their blocking.
  • Two of our main RB's, Pollard and Vaugh, don't really seem to fit the mold of a ball control running team.
Couldn't this be because at his time in Green Bay, McCarthy had a top-3 QB who was fantastic at "threading the needle" and also slippery as soap in scrambling out of trouble?

Now McCarthy does not have that kind of QB here in Dallas, so he's changing his approach to the offense?

Makes heaps of sense to me. I just hope it works...

Everyone who still doesn't get why the Cowboys passed and didn't draft Torrence REALLY needs to watch this video.

It is fully explained and makes perfect sense. He just isn't a good fit in Dallas.
Could this scheme shift in the run game be the reason why they are supposedly thinking about moving Steele to guard?
Those rumours came up a couple of weeks ago and didn’t seem to make any sense then.

Whilst that may well be correct it's also that our running game faltered once Pollard wasnt playing....the 9er's sitting in deep coverage when we only had Zeke. We need to be able to maintain a running game with RB2/3, you can do that with individual talent OR by improving the blocking scheme (WHICH ALSO HELPS INCREASE TONY's EFFECTIVENESS).

IMO the RB’s are fine as long as Pollard is 100%. You don’t have to be a big RB, you just have to get through the hole… and Pollard (and Vaughn) can get through in a hurry.

I think those two along with Jones/Davis will be fine. The “Power” from a power run game really comes from the OL/TE/FB anyway. The RB just has to hit it.
Cannot agree with you here because the “as long as” you are asking for won’t last 10 games

We need a starting caliber RB behind Pollard if we are going to be a run heavy team. This team is making the same mistake it made with WRs last year, hoping something into existence. Not going to work

The Cowboys need less philosophers and more "hands on" coaching.

I never wanted the offense to change all I asked was don't abandon the run and stop going no receiver set on 3rd and 2... and a few minor things.
They could never run a screen play or run in key situations. A lot of things have to change. Just seemed like the offense was winging it and looked lost in the most high pressure moments. Overuse of the trick plays, the jet sweeps the WR screens and not enough passes to the RBs.. there are many things that can improve here. Empty backfield was a joke. Garrett used to do the same garbage! Short yardage situations and they’ll motion the RB out wide. lol
