Dallas Cowboys: Pass rush is key to beating the Chiefs

...So what it’s really going to come down to in order for Dallas to win this game, is for the defense to take their already-dominant pass rush to take another step forward.

Alex Smith has zero interceptions on the season, and while Dallas has improved in the takeover department since the bye, they still only have ten on the season. Going against a quarterback who hasn’t thrown a single interception all season, it will be no small task for Dallas to continue their turnover streak.

However, if they manage to pressure Alex Smith, there’s a chance he makes a mistake with the football. The Chiefs offensive line has been riddled by injuries this season, but it has managed to somehow keep Alex Smith upright, for the most part.

Additionally, the Cowboys could be without Maliek Collins, one of the most underrated players on the Cowboys’ defensive line. His status remains up in the air, but the second year defensive end has been an unsung hero for guys like DeMarcus Lawrence and David Irving to make the glamour plays...

After sacking quarterback Kirk Cousins four times in Sunday’s win at the Commanders, the Cowboys’ defensive line has put the unit on a record-setting pace of sacks. The defense now has 25 sacks through the first seven games of the season; it’s just the fifth time in team history the defense has reached 25 sacks through 7 games since 1982 when sacks became an official stat.

“We’re a bunch of wild animals going in as a pack and feasting on one thing,” defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence said postgame following the victory. “We’re feasting on that quarterback. You hit a quarterback enough times, they start to look at you and wait on you to him them, like a deer in the headlights.”

Lawrence is the current leader of the “pack” with 10 ½ sacks. He’s registered at least one sack in each of the first 7 games of the season, becoming just the 7th player in NFL history to post a sack in 7 consecutive games. Demarcus Ware, the Cowboys’ all-time leader in sacks, holds the team record with a sack in 10 consecutive games (beginning in the 2007 season, concluding in 2008)...

Can’t allow smith to escape outside. He has an underrated ability to pick up first down scrambling
