As contract negotiations loom for key players, securing the star wide receiver becomes the immediate focus to ensure offensive stability and future success.
by Igor Ivanov May 29, 2024

The Dallas Cowboys have maintained a relatively low profile this offseason, despite looming potential long-term deals for key players such as quarterback Dak Prescott, linebacker Micah Parsons, and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, negotiations for Lamb’s contract could become an immediate focus.

Archer reported on Wednesday that “talks with Lamb could begin in earnest soon, with an eye on getting finalized in training camp.” This urgency is driven by the potential increase in Lamb’s market value, especially if the Minnesota Vikings secure a deal with Justin Jefferson. The contracts of other top receivers like Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions and A.J. Brown of the Philadelphia Eagles, who are earning $30 million and $32 million annually, respectively, set a high benchmark.

Currently, Lamb and Prescott are both entering the final year of their contracts, while Parsons is signed through 2025, with the franchise tag available for use in 2026 if necessary. Given this timing, Archer noted that “of the Cowboys’ big three, Parsons’ deal is likeliest to be on the back burner.”

Prioritizing Lamb is a strategic move for the Cowboys. At just 25 years old, Lamb has established himself as one of the NFL’s best wide receivers. Last season, he earned First-Team All-Pro honors with an NFL-best 135 catches for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns. This marked his third consecutive Pro Bowl appearance, with career-highs in receptions, yardage, and touchdowns.

I want him to get paid and he will. I would feel better about the investment if our QB situation was more solid. Don’t want a Devonte Adam’s situation like the Raiders have, and I swear the ghost of Al Davis haunts this organization.

He should be the priority - he is the most talented player on the team.

That would seem to fit the team's MO. The only thing that could force them to address Parsons this season is if he pulled a Zeke-like holdout.

This team is just ran by numbskulls. It now just hit them they need to re-sign him lol.
This is just standard operating procedure for the team. They rarely get extensions done early because the front office believes that the pressure of deadlines forces each side to negotiate in earnest and get something done.

If he is willing to sign now I say jump in it. After 3 year is the perfect time for clubs, but few elite talents are willing to sign before the 4th year is over

The team wouldn't do it, though.
