Taco Charlton on the mystique of Rod Marinelli:

Chidobe Awuzie on the last 48 hours:

"I’m really excited. I actually just got through a walkthrough with the coaches and the other guys. They’re kind of more acclimated than me. They know all the defenses. But I was studying all last night when I got done with graduation and this morning."

Marquez White on the team’s message to rookies:

“Coach said the first day, ‘It’s not about where you’re drafted. We coach everybody like first-rounders.’ So that’s really important. Just go out there and show them that you want to be here. Be very enthusiastic at practice. They want to see that.”...

Todd Archer of ESPN was able to get an impression from Stephen Jones on what he’s seen so far:

Two days of non-contact drills without any offense vs. defense work is hard to make a real evaluation, but Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones liked what he has seen from the rookies. "You hope to get out here and they're what you thought they would be," Jones said. "I think so far it's every bit as good as we'd hoped if not better. The way the guys are moving around, obviously a lot of skill players in this draft class."

On June 2, an extra $5 million will hit the Cowboys’ cap thanks to the Tony Romo release. While a lot of that money will be used to fill out the 53-man roster, sign the practice squad and compensate for injury settlements and future signings, Jones said it frees them up to be sign or trade for a veteran if needed. “I will say this, we’re not strapped to the point where we couldn’t do something. You never know when a trade might pop up.”

• Jones said the Cowboys will likely get to work soon on giving a contract extension to guard Zack Martin. “We’ll probably start on that in camp.” The Cowboys have given extensions to both Tyron Smith and Travis Frederick during training camp in the last two years.

Awuzie started to study the playbook right after graduation. That is some dedication. Kind of reminds me when the Colts asked Manning and Leaf what they will do after they get drafted. Manning: I am going to study the playbook to be ready.
Leaf: I may take a couple of my friends to Hawaii to relax a little bit from all this stress the past few months.
