The second in a series of NFL Draft previews on the Dallas Cowboys.
The defensive line added one new face in free agent Igor Olshansky, who will replace Chris Canty, who signed with the New York Giants.
Who they have: Marcus Spears, Jay Ratliff, Igor Olshansky, Jason Hatcher, Stephen Bowen, Carlos Polk, Matt Stewart.
Production: Spears is in the final year of his contract and is established as a two-down pro. Ratliff is a Pro Bowler and is the team’s second-best defender. He had 7.5 sacks last season. Olshansky is expected to produce about the same as Canty. Hatcher is coming along as a pass rusher while Bowen appears to have peaked.
Need: They need a more dominant end, and Ratliff needs to stay healthy.
Prospects: Penn State’s Aaron Maybin is 6-foot-4, and the ideal height to play end in the Cowboys’ 3-4 alignment. So too is LSU’s 6-foot-5 Tyson Jackson. Michigan’s Terrance Taylor, who is 6-feet, 319 pounds, is the perfect fit as an anchor in a 3-4 scheme.
