Dallas Cowboys Training Camp Practice Summary: The Defense Is Certainly The Story

Today's practice seemed a lot more focused as the Cowboys didn't let the pace drag and it was business as usual for Jason Garrett's 2015 regime. Though the the last practice ended with somber news for Orlando Scandrick, which saw players and coaches getting emotional for the loss, this practice was focused on finishing strong. Let's get at it then, shall we?

Offensive Line Drills
Practice began as usual with some offensive linemen entering the field but it wasn't the starters. On the first field toward the end zone, Marc Colombo could be seen working on drills with Laurence Gibson. the seventh-round pick has really come on strong lately and there is hope that he can find a way to compete for the swing tackle position. Seemingly about 10 yards away was Frank Pollack and he was working with La'el Collins. These two guys could very well be future contributors as early as this season, seeing them put in the hard work necessary when all other players were still getting dressed is a good sign. A small sign, but a good one nonetheless.

Sounds good. Real good. We are getting very close to being a dominant team. I feel it. Much of the national media doesn't feel the same or they just say what they think will sell. Either way it's going to be fun watching them change their tone as we excel.

Pretty much like the 92 Cowboys. while the media thought we improved over 1-15 season two years earlier, many did not see us as real SB team ready to compete with the 49ers and Skins. Hopefully will see the same outcome over the next 4 years.

Many in the media are going with the trend that 2-3 teams on average don't make the playoffs the next year. We seem to be one of those teams in most pundits eyes.

What's up with Hardy's situation? Is he going to agree to the four-game suspension or is he going to appeal?

Because we lost a running back.
The Colts didn't even have a running back last year, signed a washed up Frank Gore and made hardly any defensive improvements that I can see, but they're a Super Bowl contender.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys upgraded the offensive line by stealing a first-round talent via the free-agent route, added two pass rushers, grabbed a first-round talent to bolster the secondary, get back a ball-hawking linebacker and a healthy Tony Romo, and we're the team that's going to miss the playoffs?

On Talkin Cowboys and or the Break they've acted like he's probably accepting the four games but the possibility is still there to challenge.
So nothing definite.

He is waiting to see what plays out with Tom Brady in the courts before deciding what to do.

Hardy missing the 1st 4 games= Hardy being fresher for the rest of the season. Having Hardy and McClain coming in game 5 will give the team a boast and attitude.

Yeah but we must go at least 2-2 in those first four games though including winning one of those division games. Starting 0-2 in the division would put us in a deep hole.

Although I dont agree with us being a team ready to dominate. It wouldnt surprise me in the least to come out and do just that. 7-1? I think we have some issues that need to be addressed and drop some games out the gate; I will be happy with 5-3 first half. I do think we have a stronger unit down the stretch, and easier schedule, and well I think were sort of on a mission.....so when it comes time to turn it on. I think the water boy will suit up and get ready to play, and if he doesnt, they will fire him.

We could potentially go 0-4 but I think concern may be excessive at this stage. During the offseason so far, the Giants, Falcons and Saints' acquisitions and losses do not supercede what the Cowboys have gained outside of Hardy and McClain and the subtractions (e.g. Murray and Scandrick) are manageable. The principle matchup during the first quarter of the season still rests with Philadelphia in my opinion. The team will enjoy a full week of preparation and rest before playing the Eagles. I think the outcome will mirror what happened in the second divisional matchup last season--despite Murray standing on the opposite sideline.

I don't do proclamations but I have this feeling Philly's going to get a September 20th beatdown. It's just a feeling though.

I think Philly will come out the gate fast, but fizzle down in the last half of the season.
The Eagles can burn through the season like Katniss Everdeen's gown--just as long as they finish below us. And if they finish like a Hunger Games loser, so be it. :)
