Every year, the Boys have a day not long before the draft where they bring in players who played their college ball in Texas, or out of state players who played their high school ball in Texas... they call it Dallas Day... generally speaking, the players brought in are not the top-rated players, indeed some of them wind up becoming undrafted rookie free agents...

I read a piece a day or two back that said this would be true this year, that most of the players brought in would be late round/free agent types... so I'm bored, and I've got my draft spreadsheet in front of me, here are 17 Texas college players that I kind of like, who won't be drafted before the fifth round, if at all... these are the types of players the Boys might invite to Dallas Day, IMO... I don't know what out of state players might have played their college ball in Texas...

Keith Null, QB, West Texas A&M
Billy Malone, QB, Abilene Christian

Bernard Scott, RB, Abilene Christian

Charly Martin, WR, West Texas A&M
Quan Cosby, WR, Texas
Johnny Knox, WR, Abilene Christian

Louis Vasquez, OG, Texas Tech
Cedric Dockery, OG, Texas

Dan Gay, OT/OG, Baylor
SirVincent Rogers, OT, Houston

Henry Melton, DE, Texas
Roy Miller, DT, Texas

Brandon Swain, OLB/DE, West Texas A&M
Phillip Hunt, OLB/DE, Houston

Rashad Bobino, ILB, Texas

Darcel McBath, S, Texas Tech
Ryan Palmer, CB, Texas

The players in bold font are players I particularly like... anybody got any other names that might be added to this list??

I'll bet that a few, maybe several, of those names will actually be on the invitation list...

Good idea for a thread in these slow times, but I think they have to be from or have to have played in college within 100 miles of the pro team, so that excludes tons of guys from the state of Texas. Last year IIRC even Malcolm Kelly from Longview wasn't eligible because he was outside the allowed radius.

My first thought is the TCU guys Phillips and Hodge. But there are tons of other guys scattered around the country from the DFW area.

I just quickly went through some site called NFL Draft Bible and looked for local guys... Not sure how good this site is, but I'm sure there are tons more players than this. I'll leave out the ones we have no shot at like Stafford, Crabtree, and Jason Smith.

Rhett Bomar, QB, Grand Prairie, Sam Houston

Pannel Egboh, DE, Mesquite, Stanford

Mike Thomas, WR, DeSoto, Arizona (I did not know he was a local)

Graham Harrell, QB, Ennis, Tx Tech

Brandon Williams, DE, Ft Worth, Tx Tech

Chase Daniel, QB, Southlake, Mizzou

Chase Holbrook, QB, Dallas, NM State

Off the topic a little bit, but isn't this the year Nate Newton's son will go to UT, or is he a Senior is high School this next year?

Melton and Dockery are local.

Dockery is from Sachse/Garland
Melton is from Desoto/Cedar Hill.

There are many more local guys.

Melton will be a better pro than collegian if they find him a spot. I suspect he is an H-Back at the next level. 6'3" and 250 with great straight line speed but not a lot of wiggle. Decent blocker who can drive block.

Dockery was an award watch candidate before getting injured. He has massive upside.
