Dallas interest in OL?

key would is probably, I have heard that when people were talking about Alex Barron. Sorry man but if he can't be a LT in the pac 10 I don't see him being a LT in the NFL. If he does become a LT it will be way down the road. We need a RT now. COlombo is done. Carimi might just be a RT for his career, but thats fine with me, thats what we need. We have Free at LT, why waste the 9th overall pick on a RT when you can get a just as good if not better RT later in the 1st round in Castanzo or Carimi.

People knew of Alex Barron's work ethic before he was drafted. Do you hear people say the same thing about Smith? No.

There is a reason Smith was playing RT and it wasn't because he couldn't play LT. Smith is far and away a better prospect than Carimi or Castanzo and that isn't even debatable.

Exactly and rightnow Dallas is cuffed at LT by Doug Free because he needs help vs most of the top speed rushers in the league.

Every team in the NFL including the NFC East trys to feature a top flight speed rusher and that is where Free is limited.

Therefore, LT Smith over RT Carimi "erreyday" and twice on Gameday.

We agree on Smith, but not Free. Free's best asset is his feet. He is a better pass protector than run blocker. Free is a fine LT, I just think Smith will be superior when it's all said and done.

You can't just switch sides and expect no drop off. The technique to play left tackle is the complete opposite of the technique to play right tackle.

It seems that no one remembers when Frre came in for an injured Adams in the playoff game and was dominated after making the switch from the right side. Give him a full offseason to refine technique and he is a quality starter on the left side.

Why is Smith so highly touted? His athleticism? Solder showed great athleticism and has moved up to the top OT in many published mocks.

I just don't get all the Smith hype.

I would take Carimi before all of them.

I agree I like Carimi both in his pass protection and his run blocking.

Free never played bad in the vikings game, you need to go back and watch that bad game. COlombo got owned that game. Allen got his sacks on Witten not free. Free was blocking down and Allen was lned up in the 9 and Witten let Allen run right around him, no way even Jake Long could have stopped him. Those sacks were on witten not free.

we don't need a prospect LT, or a prospect RT, we need a starting NFL ready RT to replace Colombo.

The reason is simple as to why Smith was playing RT, and it is because he was gawd awful in pass pro.

I don't care if he is a better prospect of may be better in 4 years, I care about now and right now Carimi and Castanzo are better.

and you don't think a rookie LT who has only 2 games at LT in the pac 10 is going to start day one and be better.

Talking about Free vs top pass rushers this year, how many sacks did he gie up, not that many.

The best tackle prospect now is Smith. That is what we need. End of story.

Great way to end a debate but not all think he is the best OT prospect

why do we need a prospect and not an actual player, Carimi and Costanzo are the best OTs in this draft. THats who we need, end of story.

If you think Free was just as good in the playoff game as he was in the rematch this last season, great for you. I remember Columbo and Witten's days being even more horrendous, but Free got no push in the running game and gave up pressures on his own as well. Nowhere near as effective as the 2010 game.

I'd be fine with Carimi as well in a 5-10 slot trade down, as I think he is an underrated athlete. But anyone who says that Smith can't play LT because of two college games after a switch in position is crazy. Smith obviously has the athleticism to play either side with work, and he's not just the workout warrior thatsome here portray him to be. I am sick of seeing Dallas draft skill position talent when the trenches are in such obvious disrepair. Good teams are built from the line of scrimmage out.

there has been many many OTs come out of college with athlitic ability that has failed at LT. Sorry man but I'm not using the 9th overall pick on a maybe LT when we have a proven LT. PLus you would have to pay Smith at 9 overall a good amount of money and resign Free. No thanks to that either. I would rather trade back, add an extra pick and get a starting RT and keep Free at LT where he played very well at last year.

I'm not going to take a chance on the 9th overall pick on a player like SMith just because he has great athletis ablitity for his size. Picking that high I want a day one for sure thing and Smith is not a day one starting LT and not a sure thing.

PFF had Free as a top 5 OT.

I guess people who are God awful in pass protection make All-Pac 10?

they do if they play on the right side and not on the left. Your not playing the teams top tier pass rushers on the right side.

Also the PAc 10 isn't anything to right home about. Its not the SEC or Big 12 who has more talented players.
Even the Big 10 has more and better pass rushers in this draft than the Pac 10. Carimi played better and against better pass rushers this year than smith did.

also I guess all big 10 LT who started for 4 years and played vs better pass rushers isn't a first round pick like you signiture stats.

I'm fine with that plan so long as we get someone who can at least be a swing tackle should Free get injured or leave as a FA. After Carimi or Costanzo, I don't see anyone else to target. We also need to get a good interior prospect, and there will be several to chose from in the second day. After that, jerry can draft all the backs and receivers he wants.

He shut Cameron Jordan down. Plus he has a lot more potential than Carimi. I like Carimi, and if we don't pick Smith I would be thrilled if he fell to us in the 2nd, but Smith is by far the better prospect. His feet, arm length, and nastiness are perfect for a franchise tackle. On top of that he has production, so he's not another Bruce Campbell.

I agree, you trade back and land Carimi or Castanzo and get a CB and FS in the 2nd. Cannon and or Rackley in the 3rd and or 4th.

I think Jerry could trade around a pick up and extra mid 3rd.

1st Carimi/Castanzo(pick one)
2nd Harris/ Moore/ Williams(pick two)
3rd Cannon/ Carter/ Rackley(pick two)

How NFL site sees him is what I saw in Carimi.

Carimi was the 2010 Outland Trophy winner as the best interior lineman in college football and it appears likely that he will have continued success at the next level. Carimi is simply a "bad man" who looks to punish defensive ends on every play. His non-stop motor, coupled with his ideal size, make him a terror in the running game and he has enough athleticism to hold his own in pass protection. Like all tall lineman, Carimi struggles at times with leverage and may have to make the move to right tackle in the NFL. Overall, Carimi is a beast who should be picked in the middle of the first round.

Everyone has a pet cat and I do like Smith but when say he is the best and it is not debateable that becomes a joke since there are no gaurntees with any of these player. Every year some draft pick is talked about as a can't miss and every year some of those can't miss bomb, after the fact every guru says they knew it becuase of work ethic or some other excuse but few every said that before the draft.

I think that many fans are making a mistake overlooking Sherrod . I would actually put him and Carimi on the same level. Sherrod may even be better than Carimi as a swing tackle or full time left tackle. He could come in and start at RT as a rookie. Sherrod is more physical than Castanzo and would fit the Cowboy`s blocking scheme better. Carimi or Sherrod would make my draft day. Add Marcus Cannon and Moffitt and the OL would be well on it`s way to being fixed.
