Hey everybody... I just wanted to see what anybody else thought of the Mavericks this season?

I'm optimistic heading into the season, I like the starting 5, but they're a little thin on the bench, and a little weak at center...

The starting 5....
PG Deron Williams
SG Wesley Mathews
SF Chandler Parsons
PF Dirk Nowitzki
C Zaza Pachulia

I think with that starting unit, the Mavs will be able to score a reasonable amount of points, but it doesn't look very strong defensively.

Top Reserves...
PG Devin Harris, JJ Barea, Raymond Felton
SG Justin Mathews, John Jenkins
SF Jeremy Evans
PF Dwight Powell, Charlie Villanueva
C Samuel Dalembert

Justin Mathews is a rookie, but I saw him play some in the summer league, he looks like he'll be able to contribute some even as a rookie. We should be able to score some points off the bench, but again, I'm not sure where there's any real defense coming off the bench.

I expect the Mavs to do everything in their power to make a move or two in an effort to improve the team... As it sits now, I think the Mavs are a playoff team, and a dangerous one at that, but I don't think they're strong enough defensively to truly contend for the title.

Talent-wise it is a solid group. Issue is injury issues are insane.
Should score a lot as you mention and defense likely better than we suspect once the younger guys hit the rotation but the health of CP, Wes and even Deron will be key.

Also a bad time for the NBA where there are about 5 top tier teams a fairly small "middle class" then 7 or 8 true dogs doing all they can to lose.

It's a bad time to be a team like the Mavs in the Western Conference... In the East the Mavs are surely a playoff team, and maybe a top 4 seed... In the West, as you said, they're in a dog fight for 7th or 8th... The top tier teams in the West are just so loaded with good/great players... I know Cuban will be looking to make a deal, but it better work out better than Rondo did last season...

So the Mavs are 1-1 after 2 games... They won in a blowout at Phoenix, but on the next night of their back to back they were severely outclassed by the Clippers... Injuries to Parsons and Williams were a factor, but who knows how much them not playing hurt the Mavs chances... Lakers next...

No doubt.
Last night was ugly but playing without DWill/Parsons/Wes versus a legit contender on the road in aback to back... well not much expected.

I have tix to when the Clips visit Dallas on the 11th should be insane.
I am going to get a sign that says ... DJ, maybe your Momma can shoot your free throws!

How about them Mavs! 9-4, and currently in 3rd place in the Western Conference. I was never buying into all the pundits who said the Mavs would be lucky to make the playoffs. They might not finish with a top-4 seed, but they've got too many good players and too good of a coach not to at least make the playoffs.
