So the Cowboys make the playoffs and the Dallas Morning News (David Moore...dmoore@***BANNED-URL***) decides to word the subtitle like this:
"Commanders loss means Dallas is in the postseason for the 2nd time in 7 years".

Its the 2nd time in 3 years.

Think about how random that is.
Could have been:
2nd time in 3 years (normal way to say it...go backto last occurance)
2nd time in 4 years, 5 years, 6 years, or 7 years
3rd time in 8 years or 9 years
4 time in 10 years
5th time in 11 years

Which one of all those choices is the worst?

2 in 7, of course.
So he went with that in his title.

Really random and odd.

Sorry, just had to point this out to some fellow fans.

Email this doofus and let him know his slight didnot go unnoticed.

Just an FYI.. Headlines are written by the editors.
It was the subtitle, but I hear you.
Usually if an editor does the title, id think it would be inthe content somewhere.
Its not.
Anyway, I just found it weird.

Cut it off at 7yrs because Dallas being in the playoffs in 2009 wouldn't fit whatever narrative.

Anyway, double figure wins and the playoffs 2 out of the last 3 years is good stuff. Different culture than the Wade years. Had to go thru a lack of talent during the Garrett purge yet stay competitive (kudos to my QB for them even being close to that with a guy like Costa starting on your OL). But, he rebuilt the roster into what he wanted to see especially offensively.

Isn't 7 years Garrett's tenure (counting the half season he took over)? Even so, point taken.

Correct, Garrett took over after 8 games in 2010 when Wade was fired.

2010...............................5-3 (no playoffs)
2011...............................8-8 (no playoffs)
2012...............................8-8 (no playoffs)
2013...............................8-8 (no playoffs)
2014.............................12-4 (lost to Green Bay in Divisional round on controversial Dez catch overturn)
2015.............................4-12 (no playoffs)
2016.............................11-1 (clinched playoff berth)

So yes, this is only the second time the Cowboys have made the playoffs since Jason Garrett was named Head Coach 7 years ago.

Hadn't realized Garrett has been here this long. Could've arguably been fired after that 2013 season.......

But then again only one losing season out of 7......not bad in itself.

Yea, I think if you would have taken a poll after that 2013 season that the vast majority of fans wanted Garrett fired, not just on this site but on most Cowboy sites across the Internet.

There were a couple of posters here that were die hard Garrett fans (not going to mention any names, but the old timers know who I am talking about) and they proclaimed when he was hired he was going to be the next Tom Landry. They even had a goofy picture of Garrett dressed like Landry in their sigs until others started using it as a joke. Long story short, a lot of them couldn't take the criticism of Garrett, and with no real results on the field they had nothing to point to in order to defend Garrett so a lot of them just left.

I have always wondered if any of them ever came back under a different user name?

People these days create meaningless stats out of everything: Team A has won their last 10 road games in weather of more than 31 degrees that started at 1pm.

I think you have to understand Garrett came in as a first time head coach. He inherited an old offensive team and a 3-4 defense full of "Parcells" guys. He had to convince Jerrah of the guys he wanted to draft and get ahold of a bloated team salary. I credit Jones junior for convincing his dad to let Garrett work through those 8-8 seasons to get the right guys and to grow as a coach. He learned to give up calling the plays and just manage the game. If he had a quality backup last year, Dallas could be in the midst of a three year 11+ win run. I know most people think you can just hire names and they turn your team around in a year but the decision to invest the time in Garrett is paying off now and probably for the foreseeable future. Time to give Garrett the credit he deserves. Probably Coach of the Year and well deserved.

Yep. Thanks

Of course the article had nothing to do with Garrett's tenure or made any mention of it.

But maybe someone was reaching to make the most negative impression possible and wanted a Garrett's connection.
In any case, it was very weird and not at all standard.

No big deal, just really odd and seemingly random.

Does the duration coincide with Garrett tenure as head coach??? Otherwise to you point it makes absolutely zero sense.
