Poor punting, non-existent return game, lack of turnovers on D, bend but don't break philosophy are the causes of this. It's frustrating how much passiveness is on this team right now.

Eagles are #1 by the way, they are starting drives 10 yards ahead of us.

Dallas is cute how they dont allow us to knpw who is running the defense. Theyre protecting somebody or both guys. Somebody needs to get fired of the two
I don't understand what the problem. Marinelli's defenses in Chicago got turnovers and so did Richard's unit in Seattle. I thought we were done with the passive approach when we got rid of Carr and Claiborne.

Interestingly enough the original plan for those two was to play man and have two "talented" corners that could survive no safety help at times cause Ryan loved to blitz.
Obviously, neither came as advertised but I dunno if Kiffin/rod knew how to use them correctly here as pure M2M corners.
Carr has been solid for the Ravens.

So, we need a new punter, kicker, DT or 1T, and new O-linemen in the draft as well as potentially a new safety..? That's a lot of needs.

This stat also goes to show just how much Dallas has been driving down the field with our newfound offense, however. We make it past the 50 yard line multiple times into our opponents territory (even in the past two weeks), so despite bad field positions, at least we know we can drive it down field...? We still need new special teams players.

All these members here saying for the last few weeks that there was nothing to worry about because our bend but don't break defense is (enter excuse here)...

When Richard was the DC in Seattle from 2015-2017 Seattle was

2015 - tied for 16th in turnovers
2016 - 22nd in turnovers
2017 - tied for 9th

So Richard's defenses, as DC, were not necessarily creating a lot of turnovers.

Now Marinelli's Bears defenses did generate turnovers his three years as DC.

Interesting...I thought Richard's defenses did better than that.

I remember when we got Richard someone made a thread on here with Seahawks fans' reactions and most of them were either happy or indifferent to see him gone. I remember reading that and thinking that was a little weird. It's becoming obvious we overrated him.

We have known for a year now that Richard calls the defensive plays. They aren't hiding anything.

Field position is driven by offense, not defense.

This early in the season, it can also be really skewed by things like a missed FG, a single good return.

They need to improve here, but it's really not worth getting all huffy over.

It has been this way for years. We always seem to have poor field position where our opponents have great field position.

Goes back to coaching and the outdated schemes.

You mean Goodell and Mara aren't to blame?

Even with having the worst starting field position in the NFL, our offense scores the 3rd most points per drive.

That's weird considering I've been told the most important player on that side of the ball sucks by many brainless posters here.....

So where the offense starts a drive is driven by the offense. Interesting.
Yes. If you start at your own 25, have a hold, a 2 yard run, and 2 incompletions, the other team gets good field position. Then, if the defense holds to a 3 and out, you start at your own 10.

You'd get better field positoin with the defense giving up a touchdown. So yes, moving the ball is better for field position.

Then why does our offense move the ball the 2nd highest yards per drive yet we are last in field position?

I'm wary that this will get replied to.

It seems, if your defense can’t stop anyone until midfield, it’s going to affect your field position, right?
