Dallas needs a safety or two, linebackers, DT, DE depth, guard, WR, RB depth....we can argue all day which they need more, but we need players at ALL those positions!

So Dallas position is we are going to draft all those players?...Is this a joke?

You would be lucky to get 1 or 2 starters through the draft

Please help me understand what' going on here

I don’t think anyone here has any answers for you. We are just as puzzled as you are.

The strategy seems to be sit tight with the team that we have, and try to come out of the draft with starters at linebacker and left guard.

Even if we do, by the way, we’ll still have very little depth. So no, no one knows what they’re thinking.

I heard they're working on a 3 team trade to get Earl Thomas. Don't know how true it is.

Still a lot of quality guys out there and a lot of time before the season starts.

I would like a signing or two as much as anyone but this has obviously been this team’s strategy since they splurged the year they signed Brandon Carr. The team doesn’t believe the free agent 1st on their board is 10X better than the guy 5th on their board.

For what it’s worth...during this strategy, we have had arguably our two best seasons out of the last 23 over the last 4 years.

We could stand to upgrade a few positions but we only need a starter at guard and linebacker. I would also like a new starter at safety and DT but I am not convinced that a guy like Suh is 20x better than what we had last season or a guy like Earl Thomas is worth 50x more than Xavier Woods

Lots of time before the season?

The free agents you sign in June and July are cast offs and has beens, typically depth signings unless they are like Greg Hardy with some massive off the field issue.

There isn't a lot of time if the franchise had planned on filling some holes in FA. People say the same thing every single year and every we end with a gaggle of FAs that aren't very good. Then people say they bet next year will be different. Cowboys sit out FA again, and the same people talk about being patient and it's early.

The cycle goes on and on.

Who would you have signed so far?
What free agent have we missed out on that was going to help us and who you felt good about the salary required to sign?
A bunch of average guys being paid like hall of fame guys so far.

Will you listen if I explain it?

Collins/Irving with be the starting DTs. They need a run plugger in the rotation but a backup/rotational run plugger is not an expensive position. They just need to find one that is not injured like Paea last year.

DE
DLaw
Taco/Datone Jones/Tapper/Crawford
Can't count on it but Gregory has not failed a drug test in 2 years.
Taco looked like DLaw as a rookie.
Datone Jones looked good with minimal time in the scheme.

Secondary
Looked better by the end of the season than the 2016 group. Woods an option at Safety. Multiple CBs that can play. Three that can start and one that looks good in the Nickel/Dime.

LB
Definitely a need.
There are normally 4-3 LBs for reasonable costs that are either run pluggers or coverage specialists which is OK for backups. Mix and match situationally.
Easier to find in the draft than WR/DE/OT/QB/CB/Safety.

OL
Should re-sign Cooper at LG.
Need to add Swing Tackle.

RB
Mid rounds of drafts have many good backup RBs. Can manage with Rod Smith.

TE
Multple options
Rico/Jarwin/Swaim/Hanna
Witten just needs reduced snaps.

WR
This is what they need in the draft.
Mediocre WRs like Watkins get 16M per.
Draft is the only way to get a great WR. Teams don't let the great ones hit free agency very often.

In free agency the 2nd week is when the prices become more reasonable
.

Free Agency
Swing Tackle
Backup LBs
OG - Cooper or other.

Draft
WR, WR
LB
BPA
BPA

We are waiting for training camp cuts. Then will wait until after the 2nd week of the season so we won't have to guarantee anyone.

They know what they are doing.............;)

Ya thy know how to lose,

Puzzled is a great way and a better way than me of explaining what is happening. Even guys on ESPN and Sirius cant believe it.

All I know is Philly got Bennett and Ngahta and turned a strength already into a major strength. Meanwhile we lost Hitch and turned a weekness into a MAJOR weakness!

two dudes close to being in their mid 30's on the downside of their careers. And you think they added strength? I get their big names, but both dudes are way past their primes.
