Dallas Stars - Stanley Cup Playoffs

The Playoffs start Thursday for the Stars against the Anaheim Ducks, who kickstarted the Stars' playoff futility with their upset 4 games to 2 defeat in the 2003 playoffs.

Five years later, the Stars have yet to get out of the first round in three consecutive seasons (not including the lockout season).

They could have done so last year, thanks to Marty Turco's three shutout games. But their lack of an offense resulted in the all to familiar first round exit.

Can they do it this time?

Any hockey fans here?

What has happened to this team since the Richards trade? I thought that was a great move.

All I know is that he had a monster first game (five points total, I believe) and then he cooled off, along with the rest of the team. They fell from 1st in the Pacific to 3rd.

I like them in this series. I think they get past anaheim.

Anaheim can play some killer defense, and obvioulsy JSG beat them two years ago, but I think they pull this off.

Turco is going to have to be great like he was last year against vancouver and hope for some help at the other end. These are going to be fast tight defensive games.

The fights should be good. I am looking forward to it.

yeah, hopefully turco can play like last year. I think (hope?) we'll have more offense this year.

Note this in not about the Stars themselves but some of their fans.

They are the most disrespectful fans around IMHO, being a Cowboys and Ducks fan I have to have a thick skin. But Stars fans come into the Ducks arena and others, and disrespect our country.

During the Star Spangled Banner they disrespect our country by yelling "Stars" right in the middle of the song. Now I have no problem showing my support for my team, but above all else I show respect for my country by either singing along or remaining silent.

I ask if you know any Stars fan who do this tell them to stop and show our country some respect, I could care less what they say about my team.

The Penguins started off on the right foot with a nice 4-0 victory over Ottawa.....now they need to keep it up.

geez. that happens with alot of franchises in alot of sports.

The chiefs fans are notorious for doing that.

that was a beating. The ducks looked disinterested and slow. That is the worst defense I have ever seen neidermayer play.

I like this stars group. They have it in them to be playing for awhile.

And they is wrong too and dosen't make it any less classless, knock a team, complain about the US but I think the flag and anthem are things that should not be messed with like the Stars and Chiefs fans have. Being a hockey fan I see the pride the Canadians take in their country, and how they sing along with their anthem, now I am not saying we should sing along I just think people should show some respect and class.

Man what a horrible game :banghead: but it is a marathon not a sprint, and if the Ducks can stay out of the box like they did the last 2 games during the regular season this could be an interesting series.

I'm pretty much the typical casual fan of hockey and it's rules, especially growing-up here where it was non-existent as a participatory sport. But I was under the impression that fighting in the playoffs was greatly curtailed and penalties were severe?

Curtailed no. The penalties however can get your team eliminated. You dont want your guys, usually defenseman taking 5 minute majors or getting instigator penalties.

You just dont want to be shorthanded in the playoffs, obviously. Anytime a game is out of reach like last night, or if the series is 3-0 and the 0 is losing in game 4 you will see an abundance of fighting.

Plus, because 8 teams get in the post season in the nhl you get divisional rivalries in alot or rounds or all rounds. That breeds contempt.

This series is going to have some good ones. Pronger and ott may kill each other before the series is over.

hopefully they go on to take the series. not a hockey fan but very interested in this series. i'm hoping they can turn around all the Dallas pro sports misfortune of late. They win this series, we definitely make it out of round 1 of the NFL playoffs.
