I'm more convinced than ever that these games are rigged. That second foul called on Dirk was ridamndiculous... it took him out of the game and out of the flow. The Mavs were lucky to have kept the game that close in the first half.

I don't think its gonna be this bad next game. The NBA asked the refs to even the series. With the Mavs' help, the NBA did it. Make no mistake, the Mavericks didn't put themselves in ANY position to win the game.

Go ahead and call me a homer, spurs fans, but I truly believe this game was messed up by the refs.

i think it's funny that nba fans all of a sudden just can't accept losing.

spurs fans (although, not me) are crying about the refs still.

and now, mavs fans.

probably detroit too.

this just in....the refs are not why these games are being lost. they don't miss shots. they don't grab rebounds. they don't make the passes.

this conspiracy garbage is a lame cop-out. the spurs lost b/c they didn't play well enough. the same will be true of whoever loses the rest of the way.

This is a case of the refs being the worst in the sport where they are most influencial. In the NBA, every single time a guy drives to the bucket there is a foul of some kind, one way or another. The trick is realizing that this is playoff basketball and you dont call the touch fouls that they do call. Tim Duncan against Dallas? Got every touch call that occured. Tjis series, it's been Boris Diaw. He should not get Tim Duncan like respect.

I used to think so too.... I wouldn't let myself even entertain the possibility. But watching the games this playoffs has raised my suspicions. I'm not totally convinced, I still need to watch more. But if both Finals series go 7 games and the NBA finals, I'll be about 95% sure. That'd probably be to obvious though. So the Heat will win in 6 and the Mavs-Suns will go 7.

Conspiracy talk aside, the inconsistency of NBA refs is shocking. They'll call travelling when a player shuffles his feet on a pump fake, but when they take 18 steps before a dunk or when they're coming off a screen to catch a pass, nothing is called. The pump fake isn't as exciting as a dunk, and they have to call travelling somewhere... I guess.

Another Amen.

And nice Mike Ditka reference, even if it was unintentional.

"Did I do anything wrong out there? What did I do wrong? Did I drop a ball? Did I miss a field goal? Did I miss tackles? . . . Players play football games."

Look at my second post, I said that the Mavericks didn't put themselves in any position to win. The Mavs weren't playing well, and the window of opportunity was slowly closing. Some really, really bad calls (Nash's jersey pull) slammed the window shut. IMO, the refs are doing this alot...

I don't think its a coincidence that this is happening.

Dallas vs. San Antonio
Game: 3: Mark Cuban gets in the refs' face. Suddenly, all the calls go Dallas' way.
Game: 4: Same as above.
Game: 5: Then, IMO, the calls started going to the Spurs
Game: 6: Calls still going for the Spurs
Game: 7: Dallas jumps out to a 20-pt lead. Suddenly, the Spurs don't get called for any fouls (coincidence, i think not), and the Spurs come back. Then, the refs call the game fairly.

Think about the ratings. IMO, at the start, it looked like San Antonio was gonna win in 5 games after some time in the 3rd game. The refs cut them down, and DAllas took a 3-1 lead. Then, the refs swung, and the Spurs tied it, 3-3. In Game 7, Dallas jumps to a huge lead, and you can bet that people are starting to switch channels to season finales and whatnot. Then, officiating gets horrible, and the game gets really close, and becomes another nailbiter.

In that one series alone: 2 OT's, 7 Games, Very, very close margins of victory.

Dallas vs. Suns

Game 1: Pretty fairly called. Great ending for the Suns.
Game 2: Didn't see this game (was at a graduation in Austin)
Game 3: ^^
Game 4: Suddenly, all these calls go Phoenix's way, and Phoenix is able to tie up the series, 2-2, making the series interesting again.
Game 5: Officiating goes Dallas' way (probably because Cuban got in their grills again).

I'm not saying these games are all going against Dallas, but since I'm a Dallas fan, I point out the calls going against Dallas. As a Spurs fan, you have got to admit that officiating cost you guys Games 3 and 4.

Okay maybe these games aren't "rigged." I'm watching Game 6 and Terry and Harris got in foul trouble very early... contributing to the Mavs early deficit.

However, the Suns have ran into even worse foul trouble in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. I believe that Stern and the NBA have a huge financial interest in seeing these series go as many games as possible. The refs know that. I think they have a lot of things on their mind, fans heckling, owners and coaches screaming, and Stern in the back of their mind. I wish they weren't so inconsistent. The inconsistency isn't just within one game... It's from one game to the next, and player to player. The 2nd and 3rd fould Terry got were hand check calls, when he was guarding Thomas and Diaw, who were beginning to back Terry down. Terry is at a huge size disadvantage both times. You can't tell me if some big man did the same thing on Shaq that he'd get ticky tack fouls like that. Everyone would foul out when playing Miami. This is just one example of the inconsistency.

That being said, the Mavs are on a run here, the foul trouble is catching up to the Suns who have zero depth. 66-62 1 minute left in the 3rd. GO MAVS!!

i'm sorry, but i couldn't disagree more. your case, as listed above, is weak and a speculative one at best.

as for the spurs series....

you know what cost the spurs game 3? manu throwing the ball away on a crucial inbounds play.

you know what cost the spurs game 4? timmy missing the game winning shot.

you know what cost the spurs game 7? manu missing the game winning shot.

period.

Actually, I'd say Bruce Bowen fouling Nowitzki on his And 1 cost the Spurs the series. If Bowen lays off, Nowitzki gets the easy two and the Spurs start shooting free throws.
