I see a lot of arguing over who has the better roster or who has been the better team over the past few years. For the record, I think both teams are evenly matched this year with offsetting strengths and weaknesses.
Head to head matchups between our teams can be deceiving and telling at the same time. Both teams have suffered serious injuries over the past three years. The Eagles have done a better job of compensating for said injuries, as evidenced by their Super Bowl win and truth be told, a dropped ball from facing a Ram team in the NFCCG that they have beaten twice in the past two years (thank you Lord for that dropped pass!!!)
Here are the Dallas and Philly records against the following teams over the past three years: Vikings, Saints, Rams, Falcons, Panthers, Packers, Bears, and for fun, The Evil Empire of the Patriots. I took the NFC teams as teams that have been considered playoff threats the past 2-3 years.
Vs. the Rams: Cowboys 0-2, Eagles 2-0
Vs. the Vikings: Both teams 1-0
Vs. the Saints: Cowboys 1-0, Eagles 0-2
Vs the Falcons: Cowboys 1-1, Eagles 3-0
Vs. the Panthers: Cowboys 0-1, Eagles 1-0
Vs. the Packers: Cowboys 1-2, Eagles 0-1
Vs. the Bears: Both teams 1-0
Vs. the Patriots: Cowboys 0-0, Eagles 1-0 (SB)
Side note: IIRC, we haven't beaten the Patriots since 1996!!!!!
Final tally: Cowboys 5-6, Eagles 8-3 against common quality opponents. I am discounting the SB win for the Eagles since we didn't play them during the specified time period. Adding in the SB victory give them an 9-3 record against an opponent we can't seem to beat these days. They also have that additional playoff win against the Bears last year.
So fellow fans, we have gone 4-2 against a quality divisional opponent over the past three years. Do not drag out the injury excuse for either team too much, as both have suffered. However, for some reason, they have generally played better against better opponents than we have.
