Dalton: Coming to Dallas was the best fit

Dak's better and will be the starter...That being said, if they had a competition in training camp, I'd want whoever won to be the starter....go with the best talent available at the time. It'll most likely be Dak, but who knows?

There is no competition within the QB room. There is a structured hierarchy. Dak is the big dog, Dalton is his backup. For those incentives in Dalton's contract to kick in, it would take an act of God. Dak has no reason to sit out. He can not better himself by doing so. He will sign something by the July deadline and be the leader of this team in 2020.

The guy got cut from a perennial bottom-feeder, who just drafted their next sacrificial lamb (sorry, Joe Burrow), and found himself a one-year $3mil-guaranteed gig close to home.

Whether he can eventually parlay this into another starting job, Dalton has just shown he’s willing to, if need be, extend his career as a “veteran backup.”

AD’s signing also applies a subtle pressure on Dak’s agent to not do something insane, such as let his meal-ticket sit out to begin the season (won’t happen, but just in case).

Win-win!

Honestly, there should be competition...I honestly think he'd win, but it would fuel both to be better...and whoever can't hack competition doesn't need to be a starter. It SHOULD be a meritocracy...not by assignment.

Exactly, its there in plain text in the article. The OP posted an Oxymoron IMO. The linked article supports Dalton competing for the top spot with plenty of incentive and the blessings of JJ and MM or whoever drafted that contract.

If the pre-season takes hold and Dalton can show that he can still thread the needle, he'll should have a good chance of being a starting QB unless JJ is going to play the loyalty card and hold the team back again. If AD can't still thread the needle, then I can't see him taking over and that would be understandable.

One thing for sure is Dak can't thread the needle with his wobbly passes over and behind the receivers and if is selected over a QB that can thread the needle, then the Cowboys regress to a mediocre team once again that may win a playoff game and thats about it.

Well, if he was better, and Dak got QB1 anyway, at least we would know Dalton could succeed in MM's system. If Dak gets injured, we want an experienced vet to step in.

no one expected Tannehill to take over so quickly from maritotta, it can happen..Injury, hold outs, poor play, its not foolish, noones job is that secure now that the country club red clapper is gone.. Jobs will not be handed to you and kept without great pay..

Dont need a another WR in first round because you just paid AC 20mil and Gallup looks on the come up, welp Ceedee is there, you take him now he could end up the #1 Wr target,

all these OL depth signings for comps at C were not needed but a legit draft pick , looney, and McGovern will now be in a competition..and now a vet Swing tackle and G were also brought in..and even another Longsnapper, times are changing..

DL nice Vet depth but brought in enough FA and draft picks to push these guys

So many DBs now have to prove they are Cbs or safretys

just all over the roster theres compettion lie weve never seen

so why not Dalton? its not high odds he starts but its not out of the realm of possiblitys..the QB postion is curetly in flux, Dak technically not part for the team as of yet..all this talent on offense now, Dalton could lead this team if needed..its not foolish nor nonsense..yes highly unlikely but we are debting that now because technically hes the starter today on the depth chart..is he not?

I agree that the whole team quit, or most did. They were tired of the dead end system and dysfunctional leadership. :banghead:
First time I have accepted the results of an 8-8 record - new leadership.

the entire team, lets see Lee played very well, LC had his best season, martin never gives up, Fredrick fought through a disease. TS always solid, Zeke has a solid year, pollard looked good for rookie, Gallup best season.. Cobb nearly 1k yards.. right Dak did it all by himself..give that arrest Dak looked scared to run had some horrible passing games against the better teams..

Dak and AC actually disappeared down the stretch on offense..

yes most of the D had down year but Quinn 13 sacks? Mentioned Lee, Forbath came in and didnt miss one kick or XP..yes coaching wasn't great ST sucked..but the team failed except dak.

what a bonehead comment that was... Dak is this you?
