Dalvin Cook believes he can still produce at a high level for the Cowboys

Why are most of you so down on the guy? Basing opinions on a bad 2023 only? I have no idea what he will bring to the team, but previous to last year he had 4 consecutive years of over 1,000 yards rushing and pretty much averaged 10 td's/year to go with that. Is there a RB on this team that makes you feel more tingly? If so, state your case please so I can understand this better
The issue is when RBs fall off they typically don't come back. His yards per carry have dropped each year from 2020 going from 5.0 to 4.7 to 4.4 to 3.2 a year ago. Its possible in a true committee he might be able to do more with less touches, but I think that's about the extent of where the optimism should be with this guy. History with RBs is simply not on his side.

Because last year is the most recent body of work. It’s important to not reflect back further than that with an aging running back with a ton of use. I’m not expecting much
body of work on a team that was a total mess just 3 snaps into their season. Not saying he will grace our backfield like the good ole days, but last year was a write off for every Jets player on the team

You are correct, but it's a bit early to write the guy off. Does he have something to prove? Yup. Does he have gas in the tank still? That we don't know

I agree you don't write him off, but his ceiling is probably limited which is the issue with our entire RB room. Even if he can give you 2022 type of Cook production if he only gets 10ish touches a game its a positive, but doesnt move the needle all that much. If you can get 3 of the 4 RBs in Zeke/Cooks/Dowdle/Vaughn to hit their ceilings now you really have something

We don't need an RB1 we need a couple capable backs who will take pressure off of our QB. When our QB is under pressure we know what the end game is

Any chance Cook plays to the point where we don't need Zeke? Wonder how Dak would feel about that

Absolutely, but I think the main goal is to improve upon the results this team had a season ago. You have 250 rush attempts to replace from Pollard a season ago. Situationally I think that this team could be better, especially in short yardage. Last year Tony Pollard had 1,000 yards and averaged 4 yards per carry though, do we expect Zeke or Cooks to do much better than that?

Thats why my optimism in the run game is limited. I think a guy like Cooks could be fine, but I don't expect him to be much of an upgrade. I think the real chance of an upgrade comes in either the form of Deuce Vaughn stepping up, or the Oline hitting its potential and just being dominant.

You'd think we'd wait until we see if the o-line improves before bashing Zeke in a Dalvin thread.

Aside from the fact he won't start the year with us, which current back has proven anything material lately? Freeman? Dowdle? Deuce? The latest version of Zeke?
I mean Dowdle is probably their best back but the point is that they're likely all the same.

The problem is we don't know what Dowdle is. He will be our feature back as long as he's healthy I guess, but he's played all of 36 games in his career with less than 400 career yards. This is quite concerning, and if/when he goes down it's a bunch of guys named Joe to follow

I agree. I'd start him Sunday and give him 20-25 carries. Feature a different back the next week. Keeps the RBs fresh and involved.

Sure.

All you need is a bunch of guys named Joe.

I think he and Zeke are going to surprise some folks.

Self-belief is a strong elixir. I still believe I can dunk a basketball…but…
