Football is more than three months away, but one Tulsa player is already receiving some recognition.
Junior wide receiver Damaris Johnson is a fourth-team All-American in Phil Steele’s College Football Preview Magazine, after he led the Golden Hurricane and the nation in all-purpose yardage in 2009.
Johnson produced 2,693 yards in receiving, kickoff and punt return yards last year and has 5,168 for his career. He caught 78 receptions for a team-high 1,131 yards and three touchdowns and averaged 24.6 yards per return on kickoffs and 14.2 on punts. He also ranked third in Conference USA in receiving yards with 94.2 per game, and had the highest yards per reception among the C-USA receivers.
He is 2,405 yards away from tying the Conference USA record for that department, set by DeAngelo Williams of Memphis from 2002-05.
Johnson’s kickoff return yardage totals are 2,513. With 60 more yards, he can move past Jason Jacoby (1994-97) as the school’s kickoff-return yardage leader.
