Dan is currently a free agent. Do we bring him in and kick the tires? Maher is money from 50 yards but his XP and short ones can not be trusted. I say it would be malpractice to move forward with Maher.

it would be malpractice to let Maher into the locker room tonight with his facial structure still in tact

is Doug Flutie still available?

Maher made 90% of his FGs and 94% of his XPs this season. Bailey last played in 2020. He made 68% of his FGs and 86% of his XPs.

But Maher had a bad night, so let's bring back the guy who was far worse two seasons ago and has been sitting on his couch.

2015 Dan Bailey no longer exists.

The kicking game was beyond atrocious but let’s be real. Would you trust a kicker off of the street to step in at this stage of the season? With everything on the line? I wouldn’t. I’m willing to stick with Bret and pray that this was just an anomaly

Hope he can shake it off. Sometimes when a player gets the yips, they can't refind their form. It was good to see him kick that last extra point down the middle. Gives reason to believe he can get back on track.

Yep, I was really glad to see the last one made even though it didn't matter in this game. It was in his head - he needed to see one go through the uprights.

Admittedly I was one going off in the game thread that they should cut him, but really, I was just frustrated in what I was seeing. On a short week, traveling back across the country, just doesn't seem like a good time to bring in a new kicker. I know they just "kick the ball", but he knows the coaches and teammates. We just have to hope he can shake off whatever the heck that was.

The team has two choices:
1. Cut Maher and sign the best free agent kicker you can find.
2. Build Maher's confidence any way you can via a sports psychologist and help with coaches and trainers to get him back to spot-on before the next game.

It's tough to do #1 in the postseason when the pickings may be slim with kickers, and you've got very little time for them to gel with the team, specifically with the long snapper and holder. Tough, not impossible. If his slump is due to a physical problem, #1 is the only possibility. If the slump is a confidence thing without any physical problem, then you might be able to right Maher's ship with #2.

Having a kicker crap out in the playoffs is a scary situation. He might Scott Norwood you in the Super Bowl or championship game.

No. Maher has been a beast for us all season long and it’s too late to credibly address the position at this juncture. Roll with Maher and hope this is out of his system next game. We need a good kicker for the remainder of the playoffs and our best hope for that is that Maher gets over whatever happened tonight.

Put him on the field and make him kick 20 in a row or he can't leave the field.

5 missed XPs isn’t a a fluke. It’s in his head now. Even his kickoffs were falling short
He made his last one. I don't think holding free agent kicker tryouts the week of a divisional round playoff game is the right move.

Certainly need to look into this.
Missing 5 xps in a row is a very serious cause for concern.

If I had my bet he stayed behind and kept practicing
