Dan Orlovsky: 2-3 years before the Cowboys are relevant again

The path we are taking is baffling. This team needs a reboot. There has never been a better time to gut this roster, trade away assets, and rebuild. We aren't catching the Eagles anytime soon and the Commanders look firmly entrenched behind them. The draft is deep at QB next year. Trade Dak for 2 first round picks. Trade Micah for 2 first round picks. Trade CD for a first. That's 5 #1 picks to add to our own giving this team the ammunition and cap flexibility it's going to need to build a contender. We will suck in 2025 but so what? We have no shot anyway.
No team is trading a first unless they’re getting a first in return in the same draft. No team’s ownership group is going to leave their fans out of the draft extravaganza. In addition, 1st and 2nd round picks are the best way to acquire talent that is cost controlled for four years so you can afford to pay your stars. Certainly not going to trade into a situation where you immediately have to sign a guy for ver $30 million per season. Jalen Carter has two years left on his rookie deal and no team would give up a 2nd for the guy. Better to draft in an effort to build.

The reason you suggest trading expensive talent to build a better future is the same reason why the other 31 teams won’t do it. Might see a deal where teams swap firsts, but draft hauls including 1st’s and 2nd’s have gone the way of the dodo bird.

Relevant enough for goofy Dan to reach in his backside and pull out a take.
No one knows what the Cowboys will do this off-season yet and making any assumptions about their product for next year is just guessing.

As infuriating as last off-season and the expected trash season that followed were, this team won 12 games 3 seasons in a row leading into that.

Dallas could be good in 2025 or bad until 2031. Both are equally possible.
What's not possible is talking heads to shut up about them.

Dak doesn't even get 1 #1...but I agree with your overall sentiment. Nothing to salvage from this junkyard.

Eh, people thought similar after 2013 and 2020.

2014 they were tied with the best record in the league and 2016 the team had the best record in the NFC.
2021-2023 the team had 12 win seasons, won the division twice (once as the #2 seed - tied for best record in the NFC).

Crazy turns happen, especially when there were a lot of injuries (doesn't help that some from 2024 look to carry over into 2025).

We'll see.

He's not wrong.

The front office has already admitted we're in the middle of a reset and to expect another largely inactive offseason like last summer. I imagine that's why they hired Schottenheimer. Last time they hired a HC with a SB on his resume because they were looking to win right away.

You might get a 1st for Dak, and I'd like to keep Ceedee as the next guy's safety blanket, but I'm on board.

Also, I think we're going to suck in 2025 anyway

So...... he knows when Jerry is going to die? Oh, wait a minute, there's still Stephen

Doesnt make them relevant on the field though
They won 12 games threes years in a row. Had a ton of injuries last season.

We fans think they are irrelevant and know they will choke come postseason. But players think differently

They werent winning 12 games last year if they stayed healthy.

I agree we have needs much bigger needs with our PREMIUM picks than to waste it on a QB, but if they DO hawk, they're telling us something (if he didn't have the huge contract, it would REALLY be telling) if we drafted a QB with a premium pick!

I have no problem getting one in the 5th-7th hell look at Purdy??? lol, I also don't want a QB who's just a pocket passer, he has to be able to move around and run if need be
Purdy showed he is not what fans in here think he is.
They had as many injuries as Dallas did, He did not carry the team.
He too needs a lot of surrounding talent, including a strong defense.
