Dan Orlovsky thinks the Cowboys could be sneaky good with Tetairoa McMillan

Dan "back of the endzone" Orlovsky? Nah, do the opposite of what he's talking about.

There's a well paid reason why the Cowboys haven't gotten a big WR. QB1 needs guys who get separation, Tet is a decent WR, but the fit is questionable.

CeeDee the NFL’s best receiver, Jalen “Batman” Tolbert, Golden is next Tyreek Hill, Mingo “Dez Jr. and of course Turpin is the jack of all trades. Wow, let Dak cook…..

You don't have to like the kid, but if someone else does you want to discredit the person as if you're some kind of all-knowing football god.
I'm not discrediting posters I'm talking about the receiver. I never said posters that want tet are dumb. Relax. I never even said tet was trash. Saying hes Courtland Sutton 2.0 isn't a bad thing to say about him...........you just don't take that at 12

Your post to Rambo...

"I'll repeat it since you didn't understand. Wr needy teams are passing him up. If he's that good he wouldn't make it to 12. If he's so cant miss sprint the card in he doesn't make it to 12. It's simple"

Sure, sounds like an attempt to discredit to me. I guess when it's a habit you might not realize it.

CeeDee Lamb fell… That seemed to work out pretty good. I think Tet has big potential. He might not ever be as good as Lamb. But it wouldn’t hurt to have him if Lamb got hurt.
If T-Mac had speed and quickness to add to his frame, I would be 100% behind picking him if he fell to #12. Problem is he does not have speed to stretch opposing defenses deep in order to open things up for CeeDee and our other WRs, nor does he have the quickness to beat jams at the line of scrimmage or create good separation during cuts. This would not help Dak or our WRs.

Back in October of 2024, Colorado destroyed Arizona 34 - 7.

Travis Hunter absolutely shut down Tet McMillan and held him to only 5 catches for a paltry 38 yards for only a 7.6 yards/catch average with 0 TDs.

In 2023 Arizona beat Colorado and McMillan had 107 yards and a td on Hunter.

And then got completely shut down a year later by Hunter. Why was that? Because Tet lacks speed and quickness. Hunter learned from their 2023 game and used Tet's lack of speed and quickness against him in 2024. How do you think some of the better CBs in the NFL are going to perform against him for those specific lack of speed and quickness? How would that help CeeDee, our other WRs and our offense?

Watch the clips on this article vs press. That's my issue. I don't care how he looks with a full head of steam. In the NFL people will put hands on him. The press clips are telling. That's not a top 10 bona-fide guy.

Teams that needed wr in 2020 took them they just took the wrong one. Nobody is taking a wr before 12 unless it's tet. So when the wr needy teams pass on him............that should telll you mayyyyyyybe you don't run that card up. But it seems many of you like Courtland Sutton Jr at 12. Meh
But this isn’t like the 20th spot this is 12…….some teams have more pressing needs but I certainly don’t use teams to gauge my interest in players. If teams want to pass up Jeanty or Tet that’s on them.

With all due respect to Dak I’m not building a roster based on what he’s comfortable with. Especially since it ain’t been working. If he can throw to big *** tight ends he better figure it out.

Oh, so that's what happened. I think that McMillan would perform very well in the Cowboys offense.

We were a 12-5 team for three years until all the injuries hit. We may not be 12-5 again or even the top 1 or 2 teams in our division, but 10 wins would not be a surprise if we stay healthy. We would have been good enough for that last year without all the injuries. Still wouldn't have made the playoffs, though, or did anything in them if we made it.

ROUTE RUNNING

He isn’t the most sudden route runner.

He still lacks the play strength and burst to consistently separate from tight man coverage. His footwork is efficient, but he isn’t explosive enough at the break point to create space from defenders that are in his hip pocket. If his opponent’s in phase at the top of the route, he usually stays in phase through the break. He also gets weighed down by grabby coverage and his momentum is restricted when the defender has a hand on his jersey.

Even though he can decelerate fairly quickly, his speed doesn’t threaten cornerbacks down the sideline. They can stay balanced through the stem and drive on the comeback once they feel McMillan start to tap the breaks.

PRESS

My biggest concern with Tetairoa McMillan is his inability to beat press coverage. He lacks the burst off the line of scrimmage to stack his opponent within the first few steps and he rarely ends up creating vertical separation. Most of his targets down the sideline were tightly contested, and even though he won those at a relatively high rate in college, he’ll have much less of a physical advantage over NFL defenders. Because he lacks the vertical push to win with a linear release, he’s forced to take wide departure angles off the line of scrimmage and he frequently gets blanketed and walled off to the sideline. He reportedly ran somewhere in the mid-4.5s at his pro day, which lines up with the tape.

His mediocre speed and explosiveness also prevents him from using the threat of a deep route to create intermediate separation. Since defenders aren’t worried about getting beat vertically, many of his release fakes aren’t plausible and they have the freedom to play him top-down and squat on underneath routes.

This says it all about Tetairoa McMillan. ^^^^

Definitely not worthy of our #12th pick in the 1st round.

None of these receivers are game changers if you just go by their college tape. Quarterback play has hurt all of the top 4 receivers though. The Cowboys scouts really are going to have to do their jobs in this draft. Tet started of strong but then did very little for Arizona last season. Golden tests well but did not have any electrifying touchdowns. He even gets caught from behind on a few plays. Ebuka is not a great athlete and he is what he is right now. A floor player. Burden seems like he will need time to develop. Missouri’s offense and quarterback did him no favors.

WR is going to have to be upgraded before the Cowboys can make a serious push. I think all of these guys would be a huge upgrade to what we currently have and should see the field early this season.

Luther Burden III

Strengths

  • Early acceleration to bypass defenders and top-end speed to stay ahead.
  • Eludes route redirection to maintain vertical momentum.
  • Natural playmaking skills and instincts.
  • Stacks, tracks and adjusts to deep balls like an outfielder.
  • Operates with sudden, well-timed hands.
  • Plucks throws cleanly and away from his frame.
  • Body control and ball skills to make the difficult look easy.
  • Multifaceted run-after-catch talent with dynamic results.
  • Eliminates pursuit angles with the ball in his hands.

Weaknesses

  • A little bit leggy in his short-area routes.
  • Can be inconsistent in finishing his routes. Coachable
  • Occasional drops when traffic is near him.
  • Needs to work back to prevent being contested. Coachable
  • 75 percent of career catches were targeted inside of 10 yards, per Pro Football Focus. QB?

Sources Tell Us

“I think he got bored with that offense. His playing style is like Jerry Jeudy but with Amon-Ra St. Brown’s hands and toughness.” -- NFC national scout

Matt Golden

Strengths

  • Meets the moment with big plays in big games.
  • Adequate linear speed to work past corners on vertical routes.
  • Agile feet allow quicker gather-and-cut as a route runner.
  • Good alteration of route tempo in intermediate work.
  • Shows ability to sink, slow and open quickly from hard vertical push.
  • Twitchy pluck-and-tuck protects the catch through contact.
  • Displays body control and focus for highlight reel adjustments and grabs.
  • Big-play kick return talent with two touchdowns as a sophomore at Houston.

Weaknesses

  • Routes can be too nonchalant and unfocused.
  • Takes foot off the gas if he feels like the route is covered.
  • Pops upright into route breaks, providing coverage a tell.
  • Needs to play stronger at the top of the route.
  • Inconsistent working back on throws to protect catch-point.
  • Poor hand timing causes focus drops underneath.

Tetairoa McMillan

Strengths

  • Highly productive in all receiving columns over two years.
  • 2023 tape filled with highlight-reel touchdowns.
  • Clever hand-fighter to uncover at the top of the route.
  • Adjusts route to coverage and scrambles for his quarterback when needed.
  • Feels coverage in space and adjusts routes accordingly.
  • Uses long strides to uncover and add yards across the field.
  • Rescues throws with catch radius and work-back effort.
  • Size, bounce and body control to dominate air space.
  • Plays with excellent focus and footwork near the boundary.

Weaknesses

  • Linear release makes it tougher to elude press.
  • Doesn't create much threat in the drive phase.
  • Routes could use better urgency and finish.
  • Forced into a heavy percentage of contested targets.
  • Takes inconsistent paths to the deep ball when tracking.
  • Average toughness on run after catch.

Sources Tell Us

“He got hurt in the spring and I don’t know that he ever made it back to 100 percent. The 2023 tape gives you a better idea of who he is.” – AFC scouting director

Emeka Egbuka OSU has been putting out NFL ready WRs for the past three years.
Garrett Wilson
Chris Olave
Jaxson Smith-Ngigba
Marvin Harrison Jr.

Strengths

  • Former outfielder with excellent track-and-adjust ability and catch radius.
  • Good feel for manipulating the coverage in space.
  • Hits his turns and stems with good timing and tempo.
  • Smart hand-fighter with the ability to create late space.
  • Delays adjustments to keep coverage from reading his action.
  • Presents numbers to quarterback and works back to the throw.
  • Plays with pro feet with double taps near the boundary.
  • Right arm is his heavy duty stiff-arm to drop a tackler.

Weaknesses

  • Jostled by redirection and physical coverage underneath.
  • Speed appears average in the drive phase of the route.
  • Struggles to drop weight and open quickly on comebacks.
  • Average quickness and separation in and out of breaks.
  • Takes time to find acceleration after slowing feet inside the route or on receiver screens.
