Dane Brugler on our pick at 24

It’s been all about Burks. If he’s there I’d be shocked if he isn’t the pick.

They would have to be completely dumb to take Burks.

1st rounder on Lamb, they just spent 12.5 million for 5 years on Gallup. Now they are going to blow another first rounder on Burks? We dont even need him. This would be a huge blunder.

Not saying I dont like the player. Its just the wrong use of big time draft capital on a position we dont need. What is Burks going to do for us that Cooper didnt? Even with Cooper the offense was sporadic with the oline issues. Is burks going to block in the run game and pass block?

Especially in a WR deep draft you can get good WR's in later rounds.

We have a #1 and #2 WR - there is plenty of other WRs in the mid rounds that could be a perfect #3

We do not have a starting LG and question marks at T. If you have them all graded the same, you take the offensive lineman.

You could say that about anybody. Thats not a credible argument.
So what's your choice here?

My post was in response to one poster preferring to draft OL in the first and that no FA's can fill voids as only JAGS remain. I responded that you could draft Burks in round one, then draft one in round 2-3 and sign a vet FA if needed.

One of them has to work

Possibly.

But just because you draft an OL in round one, doesn't mean they won't be a bust or turn into a JAG

But when you sit out most of FA and tell the fans that you build your team through the draft, you can't have your #1 pick be a bum.

Go through the list of available FAs right now. Find me names that upgrades the team compared to last year's team. You won't find many, if any, at this point.

Taking Burks is just poor roster management when you've made your entire roster building plan about drafting and skipping FA for the most part.

At 24 you take the best player. Burks is considered the better player then Zion/Green by most draft nicks. Plus Wide Receivers are making 25+ a season. Burks is no brained of the three at 24.

Of course it doesn’t mean you’ve guaranteed the player won’t bust. The same is true for any position you draft for in the first round.

The draft is about playing the percentages; your chances of identifying a starting quality player from the available pool of talent increases the higher you are selecting in the draft.

I am not saying I want Burks. As my avatar, I am pro drafting OL early and I feel Zion is a dominate LG/OC and is a plug and play Pro bowler for 10-12 years. There are equivalent players to Williams last season minus the 10 holding penalties. Trai Turner, Ereck Flowers graded out a few points lower than Williams and had 0 and 1 holding penalties.

I am just saying that it isn't the end of the world if they do not go OL round one. Although, I will be very disappointed they passed on Zion, who IMO is a perfect fit and super intelligent player. Hell, I'd even draft Zion, put him at OC and sign Turner and Flowers and sit Biadasz lol

So just draft Zion! Problems solved lol

I'm just not sold on Burks. I don't think this team goes far if Dak doesn't have time to pass.

If you take Burks at #1, you have to come away with some OL pieces in the next few rounds.

I really think guys after round one can be damn good LG. It really depends on how McClay and the staff feel. They likely trust their board here and go with the highest BPA and pick the other position in the next round.

I like Kinnard, Salyer, Strange or Sean Rhyan a lot

All those guys could start at left guard or be ready to contribute immediately. I think the OG depth in this draft is one of the best in recent memory.

It's why I don't have to draft an OG at #24, but I'd rather see a DE slip there or someone like Penning at OT as I do think there's a drop in quality fast with this OT class.

Burks is rated in the same range as Green and Z Johnson. We are talking about a gap of many 4-8 players, at best here. It's not like Burks is a Top 5 talent and Kenyon Green is the 45th rated prospect.

Using yet another first round pick on a WR is just dumb roster management. What did we win with all that investment in the WR last year? Nada. Because the OL fell apart and the defense still had some flaws.

But yeah. Take that WR again in the first round.

No and no. I was against Parsons in December as @CalPolyTechnique likes to remind me but in April I has no issue with Micah. Burks is weak bro. He's not going to be a first round typewr..

Luckily Deebo, DK Metcalf, and AJ Brown were all 2nd round receivers. I would happily "reach" for Burks at 24.

And then you'll be back here next offseason wondering why we didn't win anything again and the team has roster problems.

Show me a successful team that has won anything investing THREE FIRST ROUND PICKS in four years on WRs? You can claim BPA all you want but at some point, you have to look at the entire roster and understand the concept of overspending at one position, especially when the team's whole mantra is that we sit out FA because we use the draft to build our roster.
