Danger Ahead...

Because chat is more important to me than pissing contests I'll concede I did not notice when in our 'dialog' you swapped talking about Cowboy game length versus league wide averages.

Now let's review the numbers that actually mean anything relative to this discussion:

147 - 147 frikking plays in last night's marathon "bonus" preseason game!

4- number of days before Cowboys lace it up again

4 - Four years in a row preseasons are getting longer league-wide (more total plays).

4 - Number of 2010 draft picks currently out of commission

3 - Number of 2009 draft picks that missed the entire 2009 season because of injury!!!

5- The number of meaningless games we'll play this season

85 - John Phillips. We barely knew you.

4 - Four preseason games each year I can do without

Last season was the exception for us not the rule. And a couple of those players were injured during practice not in games so lets not get carried away overstating.

If it was such an exception how do you explain this year?

The only way to avoid some injuries is to change the rules. As much as I like football... the game played with flags dose not appeal to me. But I bet you real money Michael Irvin will attest to the fact that even in that game you can get injured.

I am not complaining about guys that get injured in MEANINGFUL GAMES!!!! But how stupid when they get hurt during PREPARATION!

When the games (battles) begin then I expect attrition. But this time of year is only about getting ready.

Plot it (based on the numbers you provided in post #27):
1. Preseason games are TRENDING LONGER relative to previous years. And...
2. They are NOW LONGER THAN THE REGULAR SEASON, with a extremely generous statistical sample size of 65 games in '09 and the additional game this year.

So All preseason games last year were shorter than the regular season games

This 1 preseason game was longer

So in your tiny little brain this 1 game is enough of a sample to say They are trending longer even though they have been shorter in the previous 64 games?

BTW How long will our regular season games be this year?

No.

If you have excel, plot yourself a chart. Do you know what a plot line is?

2009 preseason 123.9
2008 preseason 123.8
2007 preseason 123.8
2006 preseason 122.4

These are Adam's numbers, league wide.

It's pretty funny how some posters take something that isn't the primary point, it's not the secondary point....it's barely even a tertiary point in a poster's thread...

And they get all consumed about battling to the death over it. When

Any reasonable person knows the salient point is this:
Wouldn't the NFL be better served with fewer and shorter preseason games?

Yep.

Good thing Jerry asked for this game, eh?

And before the Jerry lovers jump on me, because I know they will... No, I don't directly blame Jerry for Phillips being out for the year. But this is a violent game, and we now have a mature, veteran team. We pretty much know what we have and we don't need to play an extra game to see what we have. Why volunteer and even lobby to play one more game in these days of limited rosters?

Don't more injuries occur in two-a-days rather than game conditions? Then there is the increased experience of the 'rooks' and second year players who need that time in game conditions, not practice. As to Dallas, it has a huge number from last year that are desperate for game conditions. Maybe, Jerry was spot on in what the real needs of his team were...:starspin

Well first you need to make the distinction between the guys who were injured in practice from the ones injured during our first preseason game.

Also the fact that it was the first preseason game where some players got hurt dose not help your argument of preseason being too long.

Preparation is key to quality football. Who enjoys sloppily played games with miscues and tons of stupid Penalties? Pre-season helps a team fine-tune for the upcoming season and makes the game enjoyable for fans.

The league will shorten preseason to add more revenue. I suspect we will end up with more injuries to key personnel early in the season. That will effect a teams postseason dreams more then this current format. There is no cure all for injuries.

You are busted.

Here is what you wrote in post #27 of this thread. It's in black and white.

2009 preseason: 126.0
2009 regular season: 124.9

Either you were lying, grossly mistaken or are playing some pathetic game.

Plot it (based on the numbers you provided in post #27):

2. They are NOW LONGER THAN THE REGULAR SEASON, with a extremely generous statistical sample size of 65 games in '09 and the additional game this year.

And let's get real Adam, is your insistence on trying to parse/bend/prevaricate your way out of your mistake...is it more about football chat or more about lacking the the grace and integrity to admit you were both wrong and juvenile in your attack.

This forum has been littered lately with your attempts at broadsiding fellow posters. You are sniping and not chatting.

Anyone in doubt...Just look at post 27.
