Danny Amendola - Preseason Game 2 - Recap

I don't think we'll ever know who's fault it was, but I think it was an option route where if he saw zone coverage he was supposed to sit in a hole. He did make a move towards the sideline, but I'm guessing he was supoosed to just sit, yet Bartel threw outside.

The preseason is so strange. Let's say he has a better than average punt return and also makes a great catch. Does this mean he all the sudden makes the team based on 2 plays?

I don't think so but I think it helps his cause of making the PS. Does anyone really see him beating out the other WR on the roster? He may have a future with the team but I don't think it will be this year as part of the 53 man roster.

If we keep 6 WRs, I see Lowber going to the practice squad not Amendola.

If we keep 6 then you may be right. I guess I don't see what the fuss is about with this UDFA? As of yet he has not done anything and other than a feel good story he is not bringing much to the table. As a guy trying to make the team I wish him the best as I do with all of our players

Very true. If we come down to needing out 6th WR or a guy off of the practice squad then we might be in for a long year. :)

I can't speak for anyone else but for me there are two reasons. One, a white undersized WR is an oddity that I want to see succeed. I'll usually pull for the guy that is going against the grain whether it's a white RB/WR/CB, a black hockey player or an asian sprinter. I guess it's the rebel in me. :) The other larger issue, though, is the comments that other players made about him. When guys like Romo, TO and Adam are saying things like 'He's really hard to cover', 'he's the best route-runner in camp' and 'he's all over the place like a water bug out there' it made me think 'Wow, this kid must be pretty good!' That's why it is frustrating to see the 3rd string guy feeding him the ball.

So, that's it from my perspective.

As I said I'm not pulling against the kid but I want to see the best 53 players make the roster. I would not bump a guy who is doing very well on the coverage team for a 6th WR who has not done anything. I figure Amendola as 1 maybe 2 more chances to shine before all cuts are made and I wish him the best. I recall all the fuss over Woody Danztler who actually showed something in pre-season but in the end where is he now?

That is my feeling exactly!

But... everyone says he has not shown anything - like they have seen practice and have seen all the game film to see if he is open or not.

That kind of scouting is a bit irritating to me. I would take Romo's , TO's and Pacman's opinion over these message board scouts every day of the week.

As would I but sooner or later he has to show something in the game guys doing well in practice and not producing on the field is not going to make the team.

To produce, the QB has to throw him the ball. Someone said they saw him wide open in the endzone on one play. If the QB had thrown him the ball and he scored a TD would that be any different than him getting wide open in the endzone?

To me, it is not, because it is preseason and the 3rd QB probably won't see that 1/2 of the time. You just can't go by the stat line to judge a player in preseason.

true whats the point of being a HoF in practice but you can't put it together during games.

One play he was open....Just like one play he fumbled....he has really done anything to be put on the 53 man roster. If what he did in practice translated to the game he would force his way onto the roster. Yea maybe the QB can't get him the ball however if the cowboys really wanted a good look to see where he was at he would have more opportunities to show case it.

If the coaches see fit to put him on the roster great then evidently they saw something but really some around here are getting carried away with Amendola as if he is the greatest thing since sliced bread. His teammates said some good things about him, good but that is not going to put you on the team. Sooner or later he has to show something, Hell Danztler did a heck of a lot more than what any of us are seeing out of Amendola but it was not good enough to keep him on the team. We are talking an UDFA who at best has an outside shot of making the PS and maybe the team

My point exactly - one play someone saw him open in the endzone.

You don't see them all!!!!!!:bang2:

I am not saying he was or was not open a lot - you just don't know so you can't judge it!

Amendola had a great downfield block on a Keon Lattimore run. If Keon had been able to break one more tackle, Amandola had his man sealed off and out of the play. Keon would have scored.

The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence

Absence of evidence on YOUR TV screen. TV scouts are silly. We have two plays already without game film - one, open in the endzone that if the QB throws to we very likely have a TD. The other where he is throwing a great downfield block that would have freed Lattimore for a TD had he not puleed a Julius Jones.

Then we have a bad read and communication between him and the QB on the negative side.

I don't understand what your saying. Two plays with out game film- ?????? How did you learn about these plays unless One you were there or 2 these TV scouts you are bashing didn't point it out to you.

Are you dense? or are you just being obtuse?

Either way please tell me how many plays Amendola was in on and also what he did on each play!

no its your post didn't make sense. You say there's no game film on these 2 plays however you cite 2 plays where there game film on it doesn't make any sense IMO.
