DaRon Bland should be the NFL Defensive Player of the Year

Let’s call it for what it is. Cowboys players hardly if ever win these kind of awards. It is what it is. Sucks for those players who deserved it. Look at HOF and the absolute snubs that happened/still happening.

This is what happens when awards are put in the hands of people who have bias.

He broke a record that stood for 30 years. I think that deserves strong consideration. If it was so easy to break, why did it stand for 30 years? Fans love the bigtime stats. That's what this is.

We all know he won't get it, but he is deserving of it.

Vegas has him at the 10th best odds. True or not, most look at the 5 TDs as at least partially a fluke.

Look back to '21. Diggs had 11 picks and 2 TDs. The last time a DB has that many picks was Everson Walls 40 years earlier. Diggs wasn't even on the radar. Didn't get a single 1st place vote.

They just don't give the award to DBs very often. Gilmore is the only corner to win it in nearly 15 years.

Another issue that will likely be brought up even though it had no impact on the record will be that it happened during a 17-game season instead of a 16-game season like the previous records.

Of course Bland got all of his touchdown returns before that extra game happened, but it will still be mentioned by some people I am sure.
That’s the case with all stats though his were all before that last game. I think what will be the issue is voters thinking sacks are harder than ints and the TD returns are as much luck as skill. Fair or not sacks get the glory even though an int is so much more impactful

I've been watching football over 50 years, interceptions and especially interceptions returned for a td have never been the main gauge of how well a defensive back is overall. It helps but it isn't the main thing, and rightfully so. Not saying Bland is one of these but I have seen backs who are mediocre and get all the picks. Frankly Everson Walls was, to some degree, one of those. Sometimes a DB gets all the picks because the the other corner is better one and teams don't throw that way. Sometimes it the luck of how a funny shaped ball ends up in people's hands or the randomness of no one in your way to tackle you after a pick. It's pretty simplistic to say "all those picks = he's the best"

It doesn't even matter, their voting isn't going to help us win the game

People act like these individual accolades are important, funny. Pro Bowl selections, MVP race, DPOY -- all completely worthless. Make some noise in the playoffs for once, that's all that matters.

As a fan, you have the right to feel that way.

But these awards ARE important to the players, and to the players' legacies.

Do you feel the same way about the Hall of Fame? Because THOSE selections are usually based on the individual accolades you just listed.
