Other low-hanging fruit thread title suggestions:

Early picks should have near immediate impact.
Joseph is a low football IQ player. They took a chance on his athleticism. It's not working. I do think he's in the best place; if DQ can't get him to smarten up and play like a starter, no one can. But being patient and waiting until year 3 isn't sound. But hey, Special Teams!
Players advance at different rates. He might end up a bust, but he might also develop into a very good player. Like I said, he missed a significant amount of time his rookie year. That obviously hinders progress. It’s way too early to form a concrete opinion.

That's your opinion. And I understand it. I'm not trying to change it, I was just stating my opinion.
He played in 7 games last season and 7 so far this season. The problem is between his ears. It was the exact same in college. They took a gamble and it's not working. Actions speak louder than words. And all he's bringing to the table is tackles on Special Teams and pre snap penalties, which are the dumbest.

I hope I'm wrong.

The way he’s breaking on throws tells you he’s playing confident and with anticipation. There are corners that have been playing 5-6 years in the league that will basically wait until the ball is caught and just tackle the reciever.
He got more picks than Byron Jones already

How many more years?
This is his second year lol, to write someone off the middle of year 2 is strange. And he’s literally starting now so years isn’t even the question. It’s weeks at this point.

Do you trust Kelvin Joseph in the playoffs against top QB's?

He is the defense's weak link. I see him being abused in the playoffs based on what I have seen from him so far.

Cool. So maybe year 3 he'll be better? Or 4? Awesome.
He's literally starting out of necessity. If there was a better option, they would be playing.

I'm not writing him off, I hope he proves me wrong. I hope he develops into greatness. I just don't think he has the ability to be a starter. Everyone is going to get a taste of how important AB is.

He'll have a chance to earn a bit of trust before we get to your scenario. He'll probably make a few mistakes along the way but I think he'll also show that he can be really sticky in coverage.

Dude where’s this year 3 or 4 coming from lol he’s literally starting right now. It doesn’t matter how he gets the starting job, if he takes it and runs with this then his timeline is totally acceptable.

It’s not hard to see why he hasn’t started yet. Anthony Brown had the best season of his career last year by every metric. He was a very good CB2, why would they replace him just because they drafted someone? Some picks are needed immediately and some are needed in year 2/3, this is normal football stuff.

Demarcus Lawrence took 2/3 years and we got a pro-bowler out of it. Round 2 doesn’t mean he has to start week 1 rookie year or he’s a bust. If your roster is built well you can afford a year of letting a player grow into the position. Joseph was injured half the season and was behind a good starter. He was the 4th CB and played well when he started in Washington and Philly.

Pretty normal progression man not sure why you’re acting like this timeline is strange. He’s now the starter in his second season, again totally normal. If he takes it and runs with it then this pick is perfect and allows us to move on from Brown. Your only argument is he didn’t start his rookie year and he came in due to injury? Not really a strong case man.

I think you should watch the YT video in the Lamb/Kellen Moore thread as well as look into the info that @xwalker posts about KJ.

Fans only remember splash plays by CB’s because it’s most memorable. He played extremely well against Washington and Philly last year in the games he started. He’s extremely physical and athletic, he’s been better in his limited opportunities than you’d think.

It’s just that the two touchdowns given up are the ones that stick in peoples minds, but do you remember the plays he made last year in his limited starts? He almost undercut and housed a pick in this last game against Indy. He’s been up and down, but that’s what limited experienced corners are. Bland is an outlier, but even he got burned against GB. Diggs was super up and down his rookie year as well.

He’s had some good and some bad, obviously a guy with limited experience playing outside CB is going to be the weakest link. To expect him to be better than Diggs and our Safeties is unrealistic, so him being “the weakest link” is just a matter of us having good players not him being trash.

I’m not saying he’s going to be a beast, but if you watch his every snap you’ll see a guy who has the potential. It’s up to him to realize it. As much as I like Bland, do I trust a rookie 5th rounder to hold up against vets in the playoffs? Not really lol but I like what I’ve seen so far.

Joseph has a chance to get ramped up before the playoffs and build confidence. Let’s hope he does.
