To be honest, I had a huge collection of Star Wars stuff before the prequels came out, including autographed scripts from the OT. After the prequels I got rid of most of it. I still am a big fan, but Lucas killed some of it for me. Abrams did a lot to try to finish it off with Ep VII, but I still hung on. There were elements in it that I liked, but for the most part Emo Ren nearly did my interest in. Great films are defined by their villains. Even with Snoke thrown in, Ep VII didn't have a great villain. It was recycled nostalgia with a few fun characters thrown in. I'm absolutely a fan of Finn and his development. At this point, I think Rey is a Skywalker. As far as Snoke's identity, I hope it's someone previously mentioned. The nose is sort of like Bridger's, but it could be a fake hologram to throw people off. As far as Maz goes, I just now looked it up and the evidence for Jar Jar originally being a Sith is a tad bit stronger. It's not strong, mind you, but it is stronger.
Rogue One helped my love for the series start to return.
I eagerly anticipate Ep VIII, but I am wondering if the true magic will lie with the stand alone movies. Rogue One, Han Solo, etc.
I won't try and change your mind. I will just give you a couple of angles to come at it with.
The OT was good... in time it became great.... the lore grew.
Truth be told. Lots of bad acting and corny lines(that seemed to work). Adjusted story(Vader was always "I'm your father, great adjustment though
), plot holes... etc.
The PT - I think it suffered in many ways.
1. Did the very beginnings of Anakin to Vader really have to be told? I would say NO.
Obi Wan summed it up best and pretty succinctly in only a few lines in ANH and TESB.
2. Lucas in charge of everything. It had no charm, no charisma. The corny lines didn't work this time...
/dialogue was bad.
3. Dialog and lines combined with green screen killed the actors performances. That's crazy I know but they couldn't feel the setting/mood. It was like instead of "ok... ACTION,".... it was, "ok, ACT this corny crap in this cardboard box"!
4. There were great scenes in PT:
- Maul vs Obi vs qui... not fav by good
- Ani vs Dooku part 2... great beheading at the behest of his future master, "good Anakin, good.... kill him.... kill him now"
- Obi vs Jango
- Mace beheading Jango
- Mace vs Sidious
So, one of the angles I am referring to. The younger generation that saw prequels as their OT liked it.
The ones that saw OT when it came out didn't like PT.
I accept them as part of the triple trilogy set.
There was always going to be three trilogies.
They picked 4,5,6 as their 1,2,3 for good reason. It was the best trilogy.
