Canadiens' GM (former Stars' GM too), Bob Gainey's daughter was swept off her tall ship in the North Atlantic on Friday. A massive search ensued but she was not found.

The search has now been called off.

Very sad. Gainey was the old head coach of the Stars and he was GM when Dallas won the Cup in 99. Gainey is a class act and has gone through some tragedy. 10 years ago he lost his 39 year old wife to cancer, now he loses his 25 year old daughter, my prayers are with him and his family.

I read the story...And after reading that his wife died of brain cancer in 1995 I was like WOW!

To lose a Wife and Daughter like he has. Could drive a lesser man insane.

My Dad lost my Mom to Cancer when I was 10. Awful thing.

The Canadiens are my favourite hockey team. I remember Gainey in the 1970s, he came to my high school in Montreal and talked to a bunch of us.

He was such a great two way player, they actually created a trophy for him to win, the Frank Selke Trophy.

It is very sad.

He has temporarily relinquished his GM duties.
