He has Great footwork, body control and awareness. Can he tackle and would you take him in the second if he is there?

I like Amerson as well but will probably be a 2nd rounder and maybe a bit of a gamble considering the potential position change.

Scouting Report:

Instincts/Recognition
Can bite on double move i.e. gets sucked up and beat over the top by Georgia Tech WR Stephen Hill (play 10) in the 2011 Georgia Tech game. Exception not the rule however. Above average discipline and rarely drifts out of position in zone. Shows above average route recognition when facing the line of scrimmage.

Cover Skills

Can play in one but not an ideal fit for a man-heavy scheme. While there is some stiffness in hips and allows too much separation at the top of stem quick and recovers well. Little bit of a hitch when forced to open up but fast and fluid enough to turn and run with most receivers. Closes well and covers a lot of ground in zone coverage.

Ball Skills
Ball hawk that takes advantage of mistakes and doesn't miss many opportunities to make a play. Also flashes the ability to make highlight reel catches. (See play 25 of the 2011 Virginia game) Highly competitive and shows the ability to rip 50-50 balls away from receivers. (See play 61 of the 2011 Virginia game.) Looks to rip the ball out when ball carrier gets stood up.

Run Support
Fights off blocks and steps up when reads run. Inconsistent open field tackler that dips shoulder and lunges at ball carriers. Slips off some tackles while flashes the ability to square and wrap. Willing to sacrifice body to make play.

i'd take him in the second and try to move him to FS.

If it doesn't work out, we get a solid starting CB outside.

I think it's worth the pick, he's as big of a ballhawk as Rambo without the off-field issues. He's not that great of a tackler, but that can be worked on.

i don't know if you know this or not but we have alot of money guaranteed to still pay Carr and just drafted Claiborne

no thanks to t a 2nd round CB to move to safety who doesn't like to hit
there are other safeties that can be had in the 2nd that actually play safety and do like to hit. If it was 3rd then I would think about it.

I have been an Amerson fan for the last 2 years. I have watched him closely because I thought he could be an option when the Cowboys lose Jenkins.

But Amerson is strictly a zone corner. And corners in this era have to be able to play man, man off as well as zone - maybe all in one game. Even under Tampa 2 guru Kiffin. But Amerson is also big, physical and fast. Unlike Banks who is just big. Moreso, Amerson is a willing tackler. He played corner at 190-195 at NC State but is already 205. He can add another 10 lbs on his lean frame.

Don't let the naysayers with their agendas fool you. Amerson would make an excellent safety. He has the requisiste size, speed and attitude. Better yet, he is a natural ballhawk. He has the knack to find the ball when it is in the air. And he has such good hands and understands body position to go along with his instincts.

I am a big fan of drafting Amerson for the safety spot. I have mocked him to go in the 2nd and IMO that is a bargain. If Amerson came out in 2011, he would have been the 1st or 2nd DB drafted. Amerson may have to work on his tackling technique but he would be well worth the investment.

Ha, I made the same thread a few weeks ago. I definitely agree he could be an intriguing FS.
