According to the Beaver County Times, Steelers rookie RG David DeCastro "hasn’t exactly been a camp sensation."

DeCastro has yet to unseat incumbent Ramon Foster, and admitted to quarterback Ben Roethlisberger he's struggling with the physical aspect of the NFL game. The Steelers didn't take the rare step of using a first-round pick on a guard to have him sit on the sideline, but it sounds like DeCastro is going to need every preseason rep he can get in preparation for Week 1.

“I talked to him the other day,” Roethlisberger said. “I said, ‘How you doing? Evaluate yourself.’ “He said it’s different. I said what do you mean? He said it’s tough. I said what’s the tough part, the mental or the physical? He said, ‘The mental part I got. The physical is a lot tougher. These guys are really good.’”

I remember being labeled an "irrational DeCastro hater" for having the audacity to say he's not going to step in and dominate right away, and that he's going to need a year or so in the weight room get get stronger as an in-line blocker. These aren't Pac 10 defensive linemen.

Wasn't everyone raving about how this guy was a beast, and that he was already a HOF player, and Dallas should of taken him?

So a rookie is struggling to adjust in the NFL after one week of training camp. Well, yea. He still has all the tools to be a great guard.

No doubt.

But the people who were saying he could step in right away into Dallas interior OL and make them dominant, and give them a Top 5 offense in 2012-2013 got a little bit carried away on the hype. When Max Starks comes back from his ankle sprain, Ramon Foster is probably going to move back over to DeCastro's right guard position and start, and Ramon Foster is about the caliber of Nate Livings if not a little lower.

I'm not shocked... Rookies struggle, it's a part of life.

Morris Claiborne is struggling as well, it will come in time.

Rueage!!!!

If we're going to have rueage, it's going to be over Fletcher Cox. Evidently he looks like a man beast in Eagles camp. And to think people said "There are no defensive linemen worthy of a Top 15 pick in this year's draft".

Still, glad we moved up and got Clairborne, especially in light of Jenkins shoulder issues.

I'm sure he'll be fine eventually.
My issue with him predraft was that I couldn't see us spending the 14th pick on him.
When they got him at 24, that didn't seem too much of a stretch.

He'll be fine in the long run.

There is a reason DL go higher than OGs in general. I'm a little surprised he's having that much trouble with the physical aspects although most OL need to get stronger.

Duhhhhhhhh

Damn Eagles had a great draft.

Ours is shaping up fairly well too though.

I absolutely hate it when I look at an East rival's draft with envy. Phil seems to do a pretty good job. Way too often for me.

Just how good is the Steelers O line coach anyway? I wonder if that is part of the problem.

But bagging on a rookie after less than a week in camp is kind of stupid.

Now a veteran you can jump on; but a rookie?

You got that right. Hard to believe that some posters around here overhype players, but it happens. ;)

Well, he's also lining up against a pretty solid Steelers D as a rookie. Let's not forget about that either. It's not like he's a rookie for the Dolphins.

fwiw
The Fins have a good defense. :)

True. But they aren't top 15.
Just for grins...and no offense at all.
Miami 2011 defense:

3rd in rushing defense
6th in scoring defense (most important stat)
15th total defense

I know, just trivia, but I'm bored

and yes, Pittsburgh was even better than that
