David Irving - Longest Wingspan in the NFL

Irving said on a post game show a few weeks ago. He was 190 in college or was it high school. Played basketball.
Says he still has a 40 inch vertical at 270 pounds.

WIngspan is meaningful in basketball due to how a player defends laterally. In football it is arm length as body width doesn't prevent OL from getting their hands into your body. It's all about one arm at a time.

Fortunately his 37.8" arms are at least as freakish. To give perspective, Tyron only has 36.5" arms and he is a freak too. Basically, Irving has an inch over the best OT and 2 or more over the rest.

I think his ceiling at DE is sky high, but I do wonder how he would be as a TE sometimes.

Here's some related info from a draft article a few years back:

"By comparison, former Auburn defensive end Dee Ford, who is considered squarely within the next tier of draftable pass rushers after Clowney, had just a 77-inch wingspan.

Still, Clowney's wingspan wasn't the biggest of the day at the combine. A few who topped it: North Carolina's Kareem Martin (84 1/2), Tennessee nose guard Daniel McCullers (87), and Arkansas defensive end Chris Smith (83 1/8). Smith's might be more shocking than anyone's, given that he measured just 6-foot-1 in height."

Rico's measures in at 83". With his leaping ability, he's going to be a nightmare to defend if he ever figures it out.

Figured he was close, not hard to spot him off the snap haha

Once Irving gets it in his head he can dominate his opponent and focuses on the mental side of his game, he will be one tough hombre. He has shown flashes of this dominant side and just needs to be more consistent. We need to draft another beast at DE this spring.

Wouldn't be surprised.

His arms are almost 2 inches longer than Tyron's.

I love Irving's length and athleticism. He reminds me of Tony Tolbert, and that's a good thing! His development is another example of great coaching by the Cowboys. The team has uncovered some neglected gems this year.

I wasn't very focused at 20 either. We have a steal but under coach Garrett, we have stolen quite a few players. Hell our entire D is comprised of stolen, passed over players. The mighty orphans fits to a T.
we are riding this land of misfit toys to a 6th ring

I just heard Irving say that on the radio.

6'7 270?

It looks like we finally lucked out on the DL. We were due for one of these guys to hit and it couldn't have happened at a better time.

A lot of lanky guys can't explode. Irving does. It looks like he's found himself...and is finding other quarterbacks! :)
